Science

At the end of Term 2 our Year 12 Science students had the opportunity to attend the HSC Science Study Day in Albury. This day gave students the opportunity to attend lectures by a range of experts in the fields of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. I would like to thank the Albury District Science Teachers Association for their organisation and Mr Britton for taking the students.

This term started with our Year 5 visits. The year 5 students were again given a practical activity designed to drop an egg from 3 metres onto concrete without it breaking. They were given 10 sheets of A4 paper and 1 metre of masking tape. Again this year there were a variety of innovative designs that worked to ‘save’ their eggs. I congratulate the Year 5 students on their creativity.

Our Year 7 students are about to complete their first Practical Assessment for this term. This is 50% of their assessment for the semester and precedes their exam term 4. The next topic of study will be Cells and Classification.

Year 8 students are in the process of completing their first Practical Assessment for the semester. This is also 50% of their assessment. In their next topic they will be looking at Cells and Microbes.

Year 9 started their Science Project this week. These students are given the opportunity to research a wide variety of Science topics and their presentations are due later this term.

Year 10 complete their final practical assessment for the year in the coming weeks. Their last topic for the term is Evolution.

Next term the Science Department will be running a Forensic Science day for Year 9 and 10 students. I will provide more information as the day comes closer.
