From the Principal's desk

At our school assembly this week, I mentioned Jaclyn Narracott the 2022 Winter Olympic silver medalist for Skeleton. I found her story inspiring because Jaclyn worked hard for ten years to achieve her dream despite overcoming physical injury, self-doubt and fear. Jaclyn now wants to use her newfound notoriety to help develop the sport in Australia, particularly for women.

My message to parents, students and teachers is to pay attention to student interests and encourage our children to have a go and explore something new as you never know if it could spark a dream. I would like to share this quote with you that encapsulates this sentiment.

"Without leaps of imagination or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning".

I would like to congratulate all of our students on a wonderful start to the year.  Teachers and students have been focusing on the classroom code of conduct, our school values and getting to know you activities so that all students feel a sense of belonging and ownership of their learning environment.  It is very important that teachers and students take responsibility for the classroom environment and that a positive tone is set early on in the year.

Congratulations to our Preps, who are doing a superb job adjusting to school life. Thank you to our marvellous Grade 6 students who are spending time with our Preps and supporting their transition.  As leaders in our school, you are role models for the younger students, and it is wonderful to see you making connections and leading by example.

Parking, Drop off and Pick Up

Unfortunately, we continue to witness the following unsafe or illegal behaviours, particularly along Hummel Way.

Drop Off

  • Students are being dropped off at the lower end of Hummel way and crossing through the staff carpark to enter the school.  Please be reminded that students are not permitted to walk through the staff carpark. Please ensure your child is using the appropriate gates to enter the school.
  • The school grounds are supervised by staff from 8:45am. Please note that it is not safe for students to be roaming the school grounds before this time.  Should you need to drop your child off at school earlier than 8:45am please use our Before School Program EXTEND

Pick up

  • During pick up, some parents are continuing to park on the right-hand side of Hummel Way. Please ensure that you come to a safe stop and park along the left side of the road, moving downward along Hummel way to allow for cars to progress in the cue in an orderly manner, ensuring the safety of pedestrians.

 School Council Elections 2022

Interested members of the Doncaster PS community are invited to nominate for a vacancy on School Council for the next two-year period. If interested, I ask that you consider your role on council and what you have to offer DPS and how you can represent the school, its staff and the broader DPS community as a member of council. To find out more or to obtain a self-nomination form, please contact me via the office.

The closing day for nominations is Thursday, March 3rd 4:00 pm. In the event that an election is required the process will be completed by Thursday, March 17th and the declaration of the poll results will be made on Friday, March 18th.  The election process requires nominees to write a piece for the newsletter, and community members will vote for their preferred candidate.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the 2021 School Council members for their professionalism, support and commitment to DPS. In addition, we are very fortunate to have such a dedicated group of parents working together with us to better the school.
