PRINCIPALS REPORT
Dear Parents, Students and Teachers
It has been a great pleasure to be in the Acting Principal position at the start of term three. Mr Jovic is on long service leave enjoying the warmer climate of the Aussie outback.
I am looking forward to the State School Spectacular this year. Aidan Clifford of year 7 will be our sole representative this year. He has a lead vocal role and is growing in confidence every day as he prepares for this world class event. I encourage our school community to attend the event in September.
Another student who has excelled recently is Jordan Milne of Year 8 who competed in the State Cross Country at Bundoora Park. He came 9th overall in the Under 14’s 3km. This was a remarkable performance that our school community was very proud of.
As part of the College’s commitment to supporting informed pathways choices by students, the Pathways Team in conjunction with our trained course counsellors have operated discussions with our students and parents in Years 9 to 11. These meetings have been crucial in planning for the following year. Choosing a pathway is a very important decision for a student and I am pleased to see the response of our students during these sessions.
In a few weeks our students will be performing the musical Grease. Our teachers and students have been rehearsing throughout the year with some intense sessions during the break that will ensure another exciting and impressive display of local talent. Our Year 10 SRC leaders are planning an expo of Year 10 excellence known as Generate. They have met with teachers and begun plans for what will be a new and innovative evening to showcase the importance of the learning taking place in Year 10.
Our SRC are also planning a whole school assembly to also highlight the great achievements of the first semester. Two of the SRC leaders attended the VicSRC Congress and have come back with some great leadership ideas for our college.
One of these was the Teach the Teacher program which brought together students and teachers to work collaboratively to improve school culture. School leader Leigh Gibson captured the event in a short film he has been producing which will be made available in the near future.
I will join in on the wonderful City Journey this week. I am looking forward to my day in the city with the students. All our Year 9 students are involved in a project-based learning program that will develop into presentations to parents in term four.
The Building Works are in full swing and will conclude later in the year. We returned to see the removal of the middle school locker bays and toilets. These will be replacing with new state of the art facilities that will benefit all students.
On a final note I would like to farewell long serving teachers Mr Webb, and Ms Fathers who continue their working life in new settings. We wish them well in the future and appreciate the great service they have given to our community.
This term has been very busy in the first three weeks. I look forward to continuing to provide the best outcomes for our students.
