Book Week

The week we are celebrating the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book Week. The list of winners for this year awards can be found at https://cbca.org.au/winners-2019  We have a display in our Discovery Centre with many of the shortlisted books available for classes to read and enjoy. We have a special author visit organised for the Bundoora Campus on Thurs 21st August. Dee White is coming out to work with our students and talk about how she creates the stories for her books. She has many published books for a variety of age groups. We are looking forward to meeting her on Thursday. If you are interested in learning about Dee information can be found on the following websites:

We will conclude our celebrations for Book Week on Friday 23rd of August with dress up days in the Primary sections. Father Day Stall

Our VCAL classes have been busy creating items to sell at the Father Day Stall as part of their Extreme Teams program and the Horticulture VET group were also involved in creating the terrariums for sale. Classes worked together to decide on an item to plan and create which would be popular to sell. Their ideas have resulted in some amazing products including superhero badges, succulent plants in amazing ‘pots’, meat rubs, hand painted coasters and dyed socks. The students will be putting their maths and entrepreneurial skills to work over the next two weeks as they sell the items.

Newspaper Club

Newspaper Club is a new lunchtime club which runs on Mondays. It is available to all interested students at the Bundoora campus and is supporting our students learning and interest in writing. The newspaper will provide our students with a purposeful audience and an authentic method for publishing their writing. It can also include graphical content with students including drawings and illustrations, comic strips… anything that they would like to share with a broader audience. You might like to talk to your child and ask if they are interested in participating by helping to create the newspaper or contributing something to be published.

Supporting Literacy at Home

Look at the list of shortlisted books on the CBCA website and discuss our Book Week activities with your child.

Supporting Numeracy at Home

Tune into time… how long does it take to brush your teeth, get to school, cook dinner? What are things that happen quickly and things that take more time?
