Space Camp

We’ve had overseas trips before, but we’ve never had a trip to outer space!

In 2017, MGC is offering students who will be in Years 9-12 the opportunity to participate in a Space Camp to the United States. The camp will begin at “Space camp” in Huntsville Tennessee. Here students will take part in a rigorous program of training – involving low gravity activities, aeronautical sciences lessons and problem solving challenges. Once students have graduated from Space Camp, we will then fly to Orlando, Florida to visit Kennedy Space Centre, have lunch with an astronaut, complete a wind tunnel sky dive, visit Disneyland and tour the Everglades.

There will be an information evening for all interested students and their families on Wednesday 27th July at 7pm in the library.

Go Girl, Go For IT

Go Girl, Go For IT is an initiative of the Women are IT organisation. It is a free expo on the 16th August promoting the fields of ICT to girls. There will be guest speakers, workshops, careers information, tertiary study representatives and giveaways. Female role models from some of the world’s biggest companies will be in attendance. The event is being held at Deakin University, Burwood. Any student who is interested in attending should email Mrs Keen.

Year 7 and the STEAM Room

This term, it will be the turn of Year 7 classes to visit our dedicated STEAM Room and experience robotics, 3d printing, computer coding and electronics. Students will get to experience one of the technologies on offer and develop their coding, problem solving and creative skills. The program is intended to be a fun, hands-on session to allow our students to feel more comfortable and competent with new technologies.

Year 8 students visited the room in term 2 where they faced the same challenges.
