From the Principal

David Tapp

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are pleased to be welcoming back all of our students tomorrow, Friday the 11th of June. This is great news for students, staff and families. We are looking forward to seeing the students again face to face. Please ensure the students bring all their class items to school on Friday. The Remote Learning period has shown how resilient our students can be, I would like to thank all families for supporting our students during this period.

We have had some extreme weather which has resulted in many trees blowing down and they have been removed for the student’s safety. We hope that all of our families have been able to stay safe during this period. We know many families were impacted by power outages as was the school for a significant amount of the day on Thursday.

We cannot proceed with any incursions or excursions at this stage, however camps can still go ahead which is pleasing.  In relation to students returning to on-site learning at this stage:

  • All visitors to the school, including parents and carers, must wear masks when entering the school grounds as this is in line with the Chief Health Officer’s directive that masks must be worn both inside and outside.
  • Parents and carers are asked to not linger in groups in the yard at drop off and pick up times.
  • Parents and carers are not to enter classrooms.
  • Please adhere to social distancing at all times.
  • We cannot have parent helpers at this stage which is disappointing and we look forward to when we can start parent helpers again.

Return of borrowed school devices: The devices must be returned on Friday as classes will need to use them in their day to day learning at school. Parents and carers must return borrowed school devices, laptops and ipads on Friday between 8.45am and 3.30pm.  Families can return the school device at any time on Friday including drop off or pick up times. Parents will be required to sign off on the return of the device at the front office. To ensure the device is returned safely, please do not send the device to school with your child.

Fencing and parking

Next week there will be some disruption to the entrances on Eramosa Road East. From the 14th to the 18th of June the footpath and kiss and go parking area will be blocked off due to fencing works. There will be a replacement footpath made in the Kiss and Go zone. Parents are asked to park further away and walk with their children into the school. We will have supervision from 8:30 to assist with parents dropping children off early to avoid delays and traffic congestion. As a school we would encourage parents to use the corner of Roslyn Street and Majestic Drive ‘Kiss and Go’ area just within the school gates. We will have staff in this space from 8:30. The other side of Eramosa Road will not be affected, the pedestrian crossing will still be operational as well. We know this will impact our school community, however this is unfortunately unavoidable.

Next week we have a 28kw Solar System being installed this will significantly reduce our carbon footprint and offset our power bills; we will also use the system for teaching and learning about sustainability, maths and economics. Over the lockdown period we were able to get the basketball towers installed so we have 4 reversible towers ready to go for netball and basketball.

I am sure you are as pleased as me to be welcoming back our students tomorrow. We look forward to see all their smiling faces in the morning.

Have a great weekend,

David Tapp
