From the Principal Class Team

Dear Parents and Guardians
The school is quiet and largely empty of its students and staff as, once again, we go into a period of lock down. Hopefully, we will be back together by this time next week. In the meantime, our teaching and Education Support staff are gearing up for the return to online teaching and learning from Monday 31 May to Thursday 3 June.
We recognise what a significant disruption this is for all of us as students, parents and family members, and workers; and the impact it can have on learning and wellbeing in our work and personal lives. Please be assured that our staff are doing everything they can to ensure that your children are prepared for and supported during online learning, including in relation to their wellbeing.
It is really important that you get in touch with your child’s Year Level Coordinator if you have any concerns whatsoever about these things. There are people here who will assist you.
Expectations and guidelines for online learning
Yesterday we posted on Compass some key information that you and your child need to be aware of in order to ensure continuity in learning and progress over the next week. The Guide to Online Learning for Parents and Students clearly outlines the high expectations we continue to have regarding
- attendance
- behaviour
- participation, and
- completion of work.
Please take some time to read this so that you are able to support your daughters or son, and the school.
All students need to be online ready for classes at 8.50am next Monday 31 May. If your child is not present, you will be contacted by text and a phone call.
Advice about the postponement of Year 10 and 11 exams has also been posted on Compass. They will recommence next Friday 4 June.
Celebrating Years of Service
This week is Education Week, and the theme is Building Connections. Never more so than over the last year have we seen the importance of schools in keeping communities connected. They have been the lifeblood of many communities and have led their people safely through the challenges of this pandemic and enabled them to thrive in ways we did not imagine would be possible.
Each year in Education Week, we acknowledge the milestone Years of Service of our staff, both with the Department of Education, and at St Albans Secondary College.
Congratulations from all of us to each of our staff listed below for their service to education, and for the significant impact they have had on the learning, wellbeing and lives of thousands of our young people and their families.
