Senior Girls Softball Newsletter Item 12/05/2020

We are on our way to State! Our Senior Girls Softball Team have won through to the State Round after winning at both Monash Division and EMR.

On Tuesday 27th April, the team played Glen Waverley, Wantirna, and Melba, winning all three matches.

Consistent and clever batting combined with efficient fielding, including a strong pitching, and catching combination, gave us our entry to the State Round in a few weeks.

Chelsea Leach showed her talent with a couple of ripper home runs on top of several two and three-base hits during the day.  In addition, she pitched all three games, combining with Charlotte Durbridge with the catcher’s glove, striking out a number of batters, and making it challenging for others.  Our team did not let us down in the field, with a number of outs at first base and reducing the runs scored against us overall on the day to below 10. Charlotte Gervasoni took two thrilling catches in Centre Outfield that helped seal the game against a very competitive team in Wantirna, securing a spot in the State Round.

Congratulations and thank you to a wonderful group of girls. I look forward to coaching you on Thursday 27th May.

Our Sen Girls Softball Team: Asher Attard, Amelia Bishop, Kaitlyn Cavanagh, Charlotte Durbridge, Charlotte Gervasoni, Leonie Howlett, Amelia Leach, Chelsea Leach, Eva Mason, Beth Weinbergs and Livinia Williams.

Intermediate Boys Netball

Last week we had two teams representing Brentwood in Intermediate Boys Netball at Jells Park.  Games were 7-minute quarters with a 1-minute rest at half time.  Both teams played three matches each in their respective pools, before a final decided the winning teams for the day.

John Monash and South Oakleigh were kept to low scoring in matches against both Brentwood Teams, due to strong defense and good rebounding.  Wheelers Hill proved to be our toughest opponent with our teams having to work hard, think strategically and stay focused for all four quarters. In the end, both our teams went through the pool rounds undefeated, which lead us to the finals.

Both Wheelers Hill teams met both Brentwood teams in the Final. Our B team played well and fought hard, however, came away Runners Up in a reasonably close and hard-fought match.

Our A Team had a battle on their hands with the final being goal for goal for most of the match. Our mid court players moved the ball well through the court, while our defenders were strong, despite the excellent shooting from Wheelers.  Our own goalers managed to shoot and rebound well despite the pressure from the opposition. Brentwood came away with the Monash Round Flag with a 16-14 win.  Bring on EMR!

Congratulations to all our Intermediate Boys for their conduct, manner, and the way they played.  A credit to themselves and a pleasure to be their coach/teacher.

Thank you to Emily Boatman and Brooke Christiana for coaching and training the teams with me. Much appreciated and a lot of fun.
