School Production

Update

Rehearsal for our 2021 Production - none other than the horror comedy rock musical The Little

Shop of Horrors - is well under way and excitement for the show is brewing.

Performances will be held on stage in the Kevin Borland Hall at our Primary campus (Arlington) at 7pm on each of Wednesday 4 August, Thursday 5 August and Friday 6 August.

Tickets will cost $25 per adult and $15 per student and will be available through trybooking early next term.

Rehearsals

Students have not only been learning lines, songs and dance sequences but have also been working through some of the important issues raised by the story inside this musical. Many discussions have taken place about the characters and their behaviours, attitudes, attributes and social consciousness, and much learning about human behaviour has underpinned the Preshil students’ approach to developing this show.

Students have gained a deeper appreciation of the role of theatre in highlighting social issues, historical sentiments and the need for reflection and change.

Story background

Set in the 1960s in New York slums known as Skid Row, this comedic fable follows the story of a meek florist shop assistant who, motivated by love, seemingly stops at nothing to get what

he wants, even if it means raising a flesh-eating plant.

While this hilarious musical journey of

love and self-discovery foreshadows the dire consequences of social corruption and greed,

themes of racial discrimination, abuse, violence and control highlight the dark American

social sentiments of the time.
