3-4 S.A.K.G

Year 4

As we head towards the end of the semester. We would like to take the opportunity to thank all the volunteers for giving up their valuable time. Apart from cooking and sharing food with our students, the volunteers really appreciated how hectic the kitchen can get. Some have offered to return in Semester 2 to cook with Year 3 students.

For our final two weeks of the term, the focus in the kitchen is on a healthy breakfast menu that include:

  • Nut free Granola
  • Blueberry Pancakes
  • Breakfast Muffins
  • Fruit Salad

Please head to our school website for these delicious breakfast recipes to try over the holidays (look for the “find recipes here” icon at the bottom of the page in the link below)

This semester, the grade 4’s did gardening and cooking. In gardening we planted in 8 different garden beds, helped the chooks by filling up their water, cleaning up their poop and filling up there feeders. We also did maintenance by raking leaves, placing mulch in the garden beds and harvesting all sorts of veggies. We also had to water the garden beds to help the plants grow.

In cooking we cooked yummy and delicious things like soup, bread rolls, garden salads with veggies harvested from the garden, focaccia, pizza and Anzac biscuits. After we finished cooking we write down what ingredients we have used in our recipe and sometimes we share what we have written down. We also learn facts about some plants and keep them in mind if we plant and cook that type of plant.

If we were lucky sometimes our parents could come in and help cook. That would also help Ms Crossman and Cathy who teach us SAKG. My favourite thing about SAKG is planting the plants and watching them grow overtime in there lifespan.
