Prep

The prep students worked hard during the Lockdown 4.0 ending last Friday. They started off each day with an early Zoom full of fun activities and share time. After the Zoom, students completed activities from their grid. They worked on rhyming words, reading tricky words, counting collections and much much more. Students even completed work set by their specialist teachers. Thankyou to all the students who returned their books for their teacher to see. Our favourite piece of work were the letters to the teachers.

On our return, Preps participated in a Friday Fun Day. We painted rainbows, made rainbow paper chains, played games and really enjoyed being back together. It was beautiful to see so many smiling faces again.

Year 1

The Year 1’s have had a great return from Remote learning 4.0. Last Friday all the students came in for some fun games to re-engage the students and set up our classroom expectations and routines. They had a lot of fun and it was so good to see them all so happy and interacting with each other.

Throughout this term students have been learning about ‘Past and Present’ and have been looking at different aspects in our lives. From the classroom, to transport, toys and the next two weeks will be about communication and changing technology.

For the last two weeks of term, the students will be learning about Mass and Capacity in Maths as well as poetry in Writing.

From the Year 1 Team

Year 2

The Year Two Teachers were very impressed at the way the students joined in with their class zoom sessions over weeks 7 and 8. Everyone had smiles on their faces and loved sharing or hearing about what others were doing at home. They were respectful of each other and had a positive attitude about being together.

Since being back we have taken part in activities to reconnect back into the school environment. We have revised our classroom culture expectations, enjoyed having fun together, shared our stories and settled back into the routine of learning.

For these last two weeks of Term Two we are finishing Addition and Subtraction in Numeracy. We will be learning about Location and then Data from the beginning of Term Three. In Literacy we are finishing Visualising and moving on to Asking Questions as we read to assist students with their comprehension of a text. Spelling also continues with different spelling patterns being taught. The tricky words we are working on at this time are: build, house, about, tomorrow, school, cousin, through, every, only, surprise, there and where. In our Storybook lessons we are focusing on the text Turtle’s Song by Allan Brown and Kim Michelle.

In Play based learning we are concluding our Community and History unit based around before and after the development of Caroline springs and the services that are needed for a community to flourish.

We have included some photos of the Year Two students participating in the final class zoom of the recent remote learning time. Everyone was asked to wear a hat of any sort when they attended. We all had lots of fun and enjoyed seeing what each other found to wear.

Performing Arts P-2

In Prep to Year 2 Performing Arts, we have been exploring different types of art forms.

In Drama, we learnt about mime and the different techniques we can use to express ourselves without speaking such as using facial expression and body language. We’ve had lots of fun making funny faces as we try and show different emotions.

In Music, we have learnt how to read and clap some of the rhythms using rhythms sounds like ta titi and za to help us know what to clap or when to be silent. We are all improving very quickly and have progressed through Rhythm reading Stage 1, 2 and 3 onto the bonus challenge. The boom whackers are fun to use and so are the other percussion instruments, but we must take turns and swap the instruments around so everyone has a go at the different instruments. We also had a go at creating our own fruit salad rhythms to clap.

In Dance, we worked with a partner to make up a mirror dance, taking turns to copy the movements our partner made and trying to make interesting shapes at different levels. Have a look at some of the cool interesting shapes we made.

P-2 ART

Art is very important to young children. It gives them a way to let out their feelings and ideas. Children can learn a lot through art. As children draw, paint, and make collages, sculptures and so on they are learning about their world (colours, shapes, and sizes of objects).

Children can learn a lot through art. As children draw, paint, and make collages, they are learning about their world (colours, shapes, and sizes of objects). When they use paints, glue, and markers, children are planning, trying out new things, and solving problems. As children mix paints, they learn to understand one thing can make changes in another. Art lets children make choices.

To an adult, great children’s artwork often looks a lot like scribbles, lines, and even a mess on paper! Children learn by making these lines, scribbles, and messes. It’s what they are doing that’s most important. Children show their feelings and ideas through art.

Year 3’s were proud of their first time sculpture making. Preps got carried away by their sunnies and a few girls from Year 5 took pride in chilling out with their hairdos during Wednesday Lunch time Art Club!
