HAPPY ANNIVERSARY BROOKSIDE COLLEGE

As I am sure some of you are aware, this year we are celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Brookside College. In honour of this the College is organising a few special events, including a 2021 Whole School yearbook. A huge thank you goes out to the staff and students who are contributing and for making it a school we can all be proud of.

Some more exciting news is the development of the new Prep playground. This playground will be built in the Agora, directly outside the front office area, and will include some new shade sails. This playground is a great expansion to our school, and building is due to commence during the Term 3 holidays. During the September holidays the addition of shade sails in the 3-6 playground will also be completed.

In other news, the school’s Annual Report to the Community was presented during our May School Council meeting. This report looks at where we are as a school, where we want to be and what are we doing to get there. Anyone wishing to view this report can visit the Brookside website at https://brooksidecollege.vic.edu.au/.

One of the planned future actions of the college is the upgrade of technology. The Principal at Brookside College, Violeta Dellidis, has pledged to ensure that every student in Years P-6 has an iPad available for use at school, to support the implementation of the SeeSaw digital platform which will be rolled out to parents next semester. This means that over 400 iPads will be purchased throughout the next 2 years! Violeta has also advised that Apple TVs will be installed in all P-6 classrooms to support the use of the new iPads. A huge thank you goes out to Violeta and the IT staff for organising this.

Talks are currently underway with Coles Supermarkets, the Lions club and the Rotary club to assist with an expansion of our Breakfast Club, which currently runs every morning from 8am in the Food Technology room. We are hoping to add to our list of available foods and volunteers to help with this hugely successful venture. Stay tuned for more information on this as it comes to hand.

Through our Parents and Friends committee many wonderful events have been planned and run, including our hugely successful Mother’s Day stall. Thank you to all who helped make this such a wonderful event. Other fundraisers planned for this year include Tony’s Pie drive (which will be running from the end of Term 2 and into Term 3), the Father’s and Special Person’s day stall to be held on 26th August, and the Small ideas fundraiser which we hope will begin next semester and run in an ongoing way into next year. The aim of the fundraising this year is to purchase a community TV for the foyer of our front office. If you have any questions for the Parent and Friends Committee please email brooksidepfc@gmail.com.

Lastly a quick warning for carers and students to stay clear of the synthetic oval that is being resurfaced. Melton City Council have advised that work should be completed by the beginning of next term.

Enjoy the rest of the term.
