Attendance

EVERY DAY COUNTS – IT’S NOT OK TO BE AWAY

Going to school every day is the most important part of a child’s education

Students learn new things at school every day – missing school puts them behind

Brookside P-9 College expects students to attend school every day, ‘everyday counts’ & ‘it’s not ok to be away’ without an approved explanation. Student attendance at school generally contributes to successful relationships between students and staff, strong feelings of connectedness to school and increased student learning outcomes. We also acknowledge students and families who are making an effort to attend school on a regular basis.

ABSENCES

If your child is absent from school, parents/carers must provide an explanation for their absence before 8.50am on the day or prior to the absence via Compass or telephone the Absence Line. Compass Guide for Parents and Families attached.

LATE ARRIVALS –School starts at 8:50am Students to be at their Homegroup

classroom by 8.50am ready to start their day!

Any child arriving to school after 8.50am is required to sign in via the main office, to obtain a late pass. Parents/carers will receive a sms text message when your child is late or absent without an explanation, parents/carers must then provide any explanation/attendance note in Compass. School gates open at 8.30am to allow students have enough time to go to their lockers or rooms to prepare for their day.

EARLY DEPARTURES

We encourage all appointments are scheduled outside of school hours or during school holidays when possible. However, if a child departs school early, a parent/carer is required to come to the office to sign their child out via the office located in the main building. Please ensure you pre-arrange any early departures by contacting the Attendance Office in advance to minimise disruption to your child & their teacher. Please try to collect your child at the start/end of a session or during a break (lunch 11:00-11:45am / recess 1:45pm-2:15pm). Students will not be able to be collected during breaks if adequate time is not given.

EXTENDED ABSENCES

If your child is planning an extended absence of more than 10 days, parents/carers must complete an Extended Absence Form for approval by the Principal prior to the absence. Forms are located on Compass School Documentation or available from the office.
