“If you can be anything in the world….Be Kind”

Dear Parents and Carers

It was so nice to open the gates on Wednesday morning to see so many smiling faces who were excited to come back to school. What beautiful weather we had for our term break and I hope you all got to spend lots of time with family and friends. It was lovely to be able to catch up with friends and family, or get on a plane for an interstate or overseas holiday or to pack up the car and do some road trips. The children came back with many stories to tell about their holidays - Bali, Fiji, swimming with dolphins from a pirate ship, Sydney, Canberra and local trips around our state.

Anzac Day

What a great turn out we had to remember our Anzacs who fought for our country to keep us safe and at peace with the rest of the world. Many thanks to the parents and children who got up early on their last day of the holidays to march with pride to the Mentone RSL. Thank you to our Year 6 leaders Sophie, Sass, Ella, Beau, Henry, Cooper, Zak and Gus who carried our banner - they all took turns as it was quite heavy after a while!

Thanks to Ella and Gus who placed our book at the Cenotaph. I hope it is something you will remember with pride.

We also had a lovely commemoration of ANZAC Day here at school yesterday led by some of our Year 5 students.

New students

This week we have welcomed three new students to St Brigid’s.

Max in Year 5, his sister Milla in Year 1 and Edward in Year 2.

Our children have already made them feel welcome, which is why St Brigid’s is such a welcoming place - they include everyone and make sure new students have someone to play with from day one!

Winter Uniform

Now that the weather is starting to cool down it is time to get into our winter uniform. You will have a two week period to transition from summer to winter, but you must not mix the uniforms.  All students are to be in full winter uniform by Monday 9 May.

The Uniform Shop is now selling St Brigid’s winter beanies for the colder months. They can be purchased through the uniform shop for $15. Now that we have a beanie, no other beanies can be worn at school.

We do ask that families order uniform via CDFpay.  Orders are printed out each Monday for the previous week and are generally filled by the Tuesday and sent home with your child. Please remember our Uniform Shop is run by volunteers and we are very grateful for their time and effort in running our Uniform Shop.

The Uniform Shop will be open on Monday 2nd of May and Monday 6th  of June - 2:45pm to 3:30pm.

Remember the easiest way to access the uniform shop is to place an online order through CDFpay.  Our Uniform Shop will be open once a month this term on Tuesday 3 May and Tuesday 7 June.

I must say it was great to see children in our new winter jumper - they do look amazing and according to Patrick they are very comfortable and warm.

Naplan

It is that time of the year where Naplan testing for Year 3’s and 5’s is completed at all schools across the country.

Naplan starts in week 3 with:

  • Tuesday 10th May - Writing
  • Thursday 12th May - Reading and Conventions of Language
  • Friday 13th May - Mathematics

Review

Our School Improvement Review is also on in Term 2. I would like to thank the staff who have worked hard to help gather evidence for the Review in the following spheres - Religious Education, Leadership and Management, Learning and Teaching, School Community and Wellbeing. As with all Reviews, the Reviewer likes to speak to staff, students and parents. When Patricia comes for the Preliminary visit on Tuesday 17th May I will have more information to send out to you. Our Review days are in Week 9 - Monday 20th June and Thursday 23rd June.

Bugs, colds and other nasties

As we enter the cooler months colds, coughs and other bugs are starting to hit our children. We have been so used to just thinking COVID but we have to remember it is flu season as well.  Please keep an eye on your children for any symptoms. If your child is showing any COVID like symptoms please test them and if positive let me know at:

wsullivan@sbmord.catholic.edu.au

RAT kits

RAT kits will be given out next week for the following two weeks and at this stage there will be no more testing required, but we will wait and see if that changes. As soon as I know, I will let you know.

Save the Date

Finally…..It’s been 3 years in the making but we can say our Parent Social Night is going ahead on Saturday 4th June. We have everything crossed and we have knocked on wood to make sure we do not have to cancel this event. It looks like a fun night will be had. The invitation is "in the mail" and you should receive it on Friday with details on venue, cost and how to pay. Keep your eyes on your inbox and purchase your tickets asap!!

This term is only a 9 week term, but we are already starting to fill up the days with incursions, excursions, Mothers Day Stall and Breakfast, chickens being hatched in the 1/2 level,  District Cross country and Interschool sports   ..so keep an eye out on Operoo for permission forms and who can forget our Parents Social Night

Yours in partnership
