Halo semuanya!

We had a fantastic time in the Discovery Centre exploring and celebrating diversity and what makes us unique as a part of Harmony Week. It was really special to finish the week wearing our Free Dress clothes that represent who we are.

Students were excited to learn our final alphabet (one letter) code this week! During Literacy sessions, students focused on identifying the first sound when learning new words in Reading by saying the sound and also when writing words to label their pictures and form simple sentences. Students shared about what they would like to be when they grow up and we found that some people have the same dreams whilst others have different ones! How cool is that we are all different and similar? We have been so impressed by the way students are having a go, challenging themselves and persevering when reading and writing.

Last week in Mathematics we looked at making numbers. To deepen our understanding of different numbers we made them using concrete materials, then challenged ourselves to record our thinking. We also looked at the ‘parts’ in a number (for example - 4 and 3 makes 7) and showed this using colours and symbols. This week we are looking at measurement. Throughout the week we will be comparing and ordering different items according to their length. You might like to notice and compare the length of things you find at home, like the length of everyone’s feet in your family!

As we continue to move through our Respectful Relationships Wellbeing program, discussions of our Zones of Regulation and Character Strengths will continue. We refer to these things when we are feeling unfocused or challenged. Students are already using their ‘Zones Toolbox’ to help them get ready for learning!

On Thursday, students met their Grade 5 Buddies for a picnic lunch outside in the sunshine. We will continue to have picnic lunches outside with our Buddies as we get to know each other and look forward to other activities that we can do together throughout the year. You might like to ask your child if they remember the name of their buddy and how old they are!

Throughout the week students shared what they already know and what they would like to learn about in our Term 2 Guided Inquiry and STEM topics. Students are looking forward to learning about ‘Our Changing World’ and ‘Space’ next term. The Foundation teachers are excited to spend time on our planning day on Thursday 31st of March, using the Student Voice that we collected about these topics to plan for a fun and fabulous Term 2.

Have a wonderful week,

Jessica Tossell, Brooke Henwood and Ella Gasowski

Student Voice

In FH students shared about what they already know about changes in our world and what they would like to learn more about!

Reminders

  • Orange folders go home each night and need to be returned each day with the students take-home reader and take-home reading journal.
  • ‘My Words’ book was sent home last week in orange folders. Please support your child to practise these each day but keep them in the orange folder for further practise at school too. Students have been excited to read these with their teacher so let’s keep up the encouragement!
  • Foundation students can borrow and return library books on Wednesdays. Please pack a named library bag and remember to bring books back on this day! This week will be our last week to borrow before we return our books for the holidays.

Pupil of the Week

FG: Nathan H -

For applying a love of learning to write a sentence this week. You used codes to find the first sound in a word, and finished your sentence with a full stop! Keep up the amazing work, Nathan!

FH: Bastian O -

For demonstrating perseverance when writing our alphabet letters! You are doing an amazing job of trying your best to write the lowercase letters in your name. Keep it up Bastian!

FJ: Leo S -

For demonstrating a love of learning in Maths to show your number in different ways. You used materials such as unifix and counters to show the different parts of your number, as well as writing a number sentence to match. Fabulous work Leo!
