Selamat siang!

Year ¾ have had another fantastic week together, kicking it off looking our best for school photos. It was so lovely to meet all of the 3/4 families and get the chance to put a face to the name of our lovely parents and carers. 3-way conferences were an awesome opportunity for our students to showcase the amazing work and goals they have been working on throughout the term.

We can't believe there are only 2 weeks left of the Term and what an exciting 2 weeks it will be with all the events coming up! Make sure to keep collecting those donations for the Colour Fun Run!

In Reading sessions across the week, students continued to further their understanding when making connections within the text. Students had the opportunity to connect with a variety of texts in regards to our Harmony Week celebration. We explored how to take our connections deeper and how text-to-text, to-self and to-world connections help us have a better understanding of the book.

Our persuasive writing unit on ‘The World's Greatest Invention’ has been another great week of progress and students continue to move through The Writing Process. We have been practising using strong openers and emotive language to develop convincing paragraphs. We look forward to finishing off our texts and getting the opportunity to share our speeches with the class.

This week in Maths, students enjoyed the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities that promoted the use of our problem solving strategies when learning about fractions. We had problems looking at fractions of a collection from the text “The Doorbell Rang” and helping Mrs B figure out what fractions of paint bottles have come for our upcoming Colour Fun Run.

In Guided Inquiry we have been busy preparing our game boards for our Game of Life project. The students are excited to share these projects with you when we have our Guided Inquiry showcase Wednesday afternoon in the last week of school. I wonder if you will learn something new from your child or some of the other ¾ students?

In preparation for the Grade 3 students undertaking NAPLAN in Term 2, we ran a coordinated practise NAPLAN session to test out the process of logging on and using the NAP browser program. The teachers were extremely impressed with the students' attitude undertaking this task and appreciate their patience during the session. Please ensure your child has a pair of headphones that connect to their iPad.

While the Grade 3 students were out, Grade 4 students had the opportunity to connect with their Leadership peers and work with the Grade 6 students on a Harmony Day activity, learning about how different colours mean various things in cultures around the world.

Have a wonderful week,

Mr O’Connor, Miss Chooi, Miss Richardson, Miss Wang, Mrs McCoy and Miss Honan
