The Wise Woman's Stone

A wise woman who was travelling in the mountains found a precious stone in a stream. The next day she met another traveller who was hungry, and the wise woman opened her bag to share her food. The hungry traveller saw the precious stone and asked the woman to give it to him. She did so without hesitation. The traveller left, rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the stone was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime. But a few days later he came back to return the stone to the wise woman.

"I've been thinking," he said, "I know how valuable the stone is, but I give it back in the hope that you can give me something even more precious. Give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me the stone."  - Author Unknown

The passage is one of my favourites, it is a story shared from generation to generation. Every time I read this passage, it has ability to provide me with a time of reflection on how we can respond in a selfless manner.

This story connects to many Bible stories, in which we see pure love and generosity; the poor widow (Mk 12:41-44), the good Samaritan (Lk 10:30-37), love your neighbour (Matt 22:37-39). Generosity is not measured by the amount we donate; but truly our actions, and what is in our heart. We regularly say to the children - treat others the way you want to be treated. An easy and simple way to live!

Harmony Week

The 2022 Harmony Week theme was Everyone Belongs; we were able to focus on our wonderful community which highlights acceptance, love and respect. Harmony Week celebrations dominated our school week and the vibrant colour brought excitement to our students and staff.

We had very special visitors, members from Victoria Police (photos in gallery). They spoke about the importance and strategies of staying safe. The students enjoyed the visit and are looking forward to their return.

We ended the week with a fabulous parade celebrating our wonderful community.

General Notes

  1. Lateness: There is a considerable number of late students arriving after 8.45am every day. It is crucial students arrive on time and do not miss the morning routine. We will be communicating to parents who have developed a pattern of late attendance. We understand it has been difficulty returning to a school routine, however support and strategies can be accessed via the Head of Campus, Ms Neophytou.
  2. Student Absences: We have a large number of students travelling overseas prior to the Term One holiday break. These leave of absences are not approved and impact students academic learning and social engagement. It is crucial that parents meet with the Head of Campus, Ms Neophytou to discuss the proposed leave prior to departure.
  3. College Uniform: The College uniform details are found in the College handbook. It is crucial the uniform is worn correctly and the items purchased are from Rushfords School Wear, Werribee.
  4. Communication: Parent communication is sent via Compass and on occasion via email. Its is crucial that parents are up-to-date with College information.
