Year 9 News

We are now in the final week of Term 1 for Year 9 in 2022.

It has been an extremely busy term and it is time to reflect on some of the great improvements we have achieved.  The fortnightly level of poor behaviour choices has dropped by 52% as the number of positive behaviour choices has rebounded from an early drop off.  The theme we are working on is looking for positives in our lives to be grateful for and helping others whenever we can.

Year 9 is a challenging year for many students as they grapple with their transition from children into young adults and we seek to support this at Kurnai.

Progress reports were released late last week and we will hand out the awards for high attendance and high learning engagement at the beginning of next term.

NEW TECHNICAL SCHOOL VISIT

A new Tech School experience called 'Students will use technologies to achieve an Extended Reality outcome. They will explore virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality as an instrument to enhance real world scenarios and learn about how extended reality technologies fit as a tool for industry and community.’  Please complete the online permission form for this excursion on the 5th of May 2022.

MORRISBY REPORTS 2022

In week two and three of Term 2, Year 9 students get the incredible opportunity to complete a Morrisby profiling session.

The resulting report will give insights into their innate/natural strengths so they can use this knowledge to help them choose subjects and careers which match their natural abilities. A half hour interview with a professional careers consultant will explore those results.  Your child’s Morrisby Profile is all about them!

The profiling session will take a maximum of 1 hour and 50 minutes. There are 8 timed aptitude modules and 2 multiple choice questionnaires to measure interest and personality type.

It is important that we have true and accurate results so that when you have your one-on-one unpacking session with a career consultant, they will be able to advise you based on your authentic Morrisby Profile. It is important that all answers are your own to make sure the results reflect your strengths and preferences.

Please complete and return the permission forms that have been sent out this week.

NAPLAN 2022

NAPLAN testing is due to be completed for Year 9 and Year 7 students during Term 2 this year and will be undertaken using an online testing system.

This week we are completing our final NAPLAN practise session with all the Year 9 students to ensure they are ready for the upcoming test and can perform their best work. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Anthony Di Fabrizio for assistance.

THE YEAR 9 CAMP

Year 9 Melbourne Experience Camp planning continues. This camp will be a 4 night stay in Melbourne where students will have the opportunity to experience a range of cultural, educational and leisure activities in the Melbourne CBD. It is an important part of developing a wider understanding of the world around us.  We are extremely keen to get as many students involved as possible.  The camp will cost approximately $400 per student and I encourage all families to begin planning and putting money aside to cover this cost.  Students have been informed of the camp and expressions of interest can still be made by students on Teams.
