VCE and Careers Expo

On Friday 29 April, the Year 10s attended the VCE and Careers Expo, held at Caulfield Racecourse. Universities, Tafes, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and a variety of other organisations had stalls set up for students to explore and ask questions. It was great to see a group of Year 10s attend the seminar ‘A guide to choosing your VCE subjects - pathways to your future: advice for Year 10 students’. Students will be able to draw on the information they received at the expo as they start to investigate senior pathways later, in Term 2 in Beyond.

“The VCE and Careers Expo was a great opportunity to talk to universities and organisations about future career pathways. There were heaps of stalls and it was super helpful getting to talk to some of the major universities and looking through their course guides. But most of all, it was a good experience because it got me thinking about VCE and the steps I need to take from schooling to my career.”

“The VCE and Careers Expo was a truly amazing experience, and I am massively grateful to have been given this opportunity. At the expo, there were dozens of stalls and booths, each with an interesting insight into potential careers and futures, such as the Photography Studies College, a place I did not know even existed until I found it at the expo. There were fun activities, like this VR game made by the students of the booth hosts, and a wheel of fortune to get a fun prize. Overall, I am extremely glad to have been able to go to the expo.”

“Last Friday, the Year 10s had an opportunity to attend a VCE Careers Expo, alongside other schools in Victoria. There were multiple stalls with a variety of information available for students to explore their future careers and school opportunities after Year 10. The helpers there guided us through potential pathways and were very informative on anything the students wanted to know. There were also various seminars giving information on specific topics, such as VTAC, VCE and university courses for students to consider after Year 10. Overall, it was very helpful for all of us.”

Trades Fit Expo

The Trades Fit - Young Women in Trades and Tech is an inaugural expo hosted by the Department of Education and Training. The expo showcases employment options within the trades and tech industries, with interactive displays set up for students to experience what these careers could be.

The expo will introduce female students* in years 9, 10 and 11 to career pathways in traditionally male dominated industries, and provide information about how they can pursue exciting career opportunities in these fields.

The Trades Fit lets young women connect with employers, key industry organisations and supporters of gender equity, that are helping women step into these fields.

Students will hear from trade and tech representatives from fields including building and construction, electrical engineering, plumbing, automotive, transport and logistics, mining, agriculture and horticulture, aviation, marine, and many more.

Students need to express their interest in attending by completing the Microsoft Form by Wednesday 4th April 2022.

* This event is for young women and non-binary people who are comfortable in a space that centres on the experiences of young women.

Year 10 Work Experience

A reminder to students and families that Year 10 Work Experience forms need to be submitted to the front office by Friday 13th of May. Work Experience support runs every Wednesday in the Careers Space that students are welcome to attend.

The Work Experience Arrangement Form needs to be signed by the employer, student, and parent, and/or guardian once the placement has been organised. Students should then hand in the Work Experience Arrangement Form and the Additional Covid-19 Work Experience Form to the front office.

If a student needs to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the parent/guardian and employer must complete the Work Experience Travel and Accommodation Form.

If a student is required to stay at accommodation other than his or her normal place of residence while undertaking work experience, the parent/guardian is responsible for making suitable arrangements and must also complete the Work Experience Travel and Accommodation Form.

Industry Talks

Thank you to our community members and parents/guardians who have expressed interest in Beaumaris Secondary College’s Industry Talks. We are seeking further expressions of interest from community members who are willing to share their expertise within Architecture and Design, Construction, Disability Services, Early Childhood and Education, Engineering, Financial Services, Health Care (including Nursing and Allied Health Services), Hospitality, IT & Cyber Security, Music, Performing Arts and Psychology.
