Junior School

Holy Week Liturgy

In our current COVID-19 restrictions, Ms Temmen, Mrs Clarke and our Communications Team have been creative in putting together a video recording of the Junior School students celebrating Holy Week with a reflective Liturgy. It will be ready for viewing on Friday morning, April 8 and parents will receive a link so they may view this retelling of the Easter Story.

Easter Raffle

Thank you to the Year 4 families who provided Easter eggs for the raffle and the prefects for selling raffle tickets this week and next week. The raffle will be drawn and prize winners informed on Friday.

Golden Honour Assemblies

As is tradition, we will conclude our term with Golden Honour Assemblies conducted in the year groups. Three Year 6 students will also receive TOBA awards.

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the Junior School had the opportunity to participate in the Life Ed Program. The presentations were about motivating and empowering us to make safer and healthier choices in our relationships and maintaining a healthy mindset. Whilst the Year 4s learnt about being cyber-wise and how to respond to cyber-bullying, the Year 5 and 6s looked at respectful relationships and reasons and ways to steer clear of illicit substances. The following is a Life Ed link for parents and carers:

In Religion classes we are learning about the three pillars of Lent: prayer, fasting and almsgiving (the act of donating money, food or other items to those in need). In regards to almsgiving, we have recently supported the efforts of Caritas Australia’s Ukraine Appeal, however, Project Compassion is Caritas’ annual Lenten fundraising and awareness appeal, helping vulnerable communities around the world forge a path out of poverty. Please remember to show your compassion this Lenten season by donating online or returning the small cardboard donation boxes (filled with loose change) to your local parish or return to school by May 31.

This week, there was no early morning sport training for the Year 5 and 6 classes as summer PSA sport had finished! After the success of the summer season, we are using the final two weeks of term to train and prepare our teams for the winter round ahead. For the football, rugby, soccer, and hockey teams, it was an opportunity to reunite with old teammates, bond with new ones and develop strategies with our coaches. The energy on the field was electric, with all teams fired up to represent the blue and green. We will be in peak form for our first fixture, Week 1 of Term 2.

Also, during the week, the prefects sold tickets for the Easter raffle, which will be drawn next Friday. A huge thankyou to the Year 4 families for providing all the chocolatey treats for the draw. Good luck to all who have purchased tickets, have your fingers crossed. All the money collected from the Easter raffle will be donated to missions.

Yesterday, we learned of the sad news of Mr Tucker resigning from the Junior School. Watching you leave, Mr Tucker, will be hard, but please know that there is always a place here for you in the TC community. Thank you for your leadership and all that you have done for our school over the last 8 years and know that we will never forget you. We wish you well on your journey at St John Paul II Catholic Primary School.

Today, the prefects went around to the mini assemblies for each year group to present the honour cards. Congratulations to all the award winners this week. Have a great last week of Term 1 and good luck with your interim reports distributed today!
