Science

This year we welcome Ms Samantha Worthington and Ms Diana Ganapathy to the Science Department. Ms Worthington will be teaching Senior Chemistry, Junior Science and Mathematics and Ms Ganapathy will be teaching Senior Biology and Junior Science.

We are just coming to the end of our first topics in Junior Science next week. All Junior classes will soon receive their Student Research Projects for the semester. This will be the major assessment for this semester. Testing for this semester will involve a number of formative tests.

Our first excursion this year took place on 18 February when Year 12 Chemistry students travelled to Charles Sturt University for the day. The students were given an opportunity to use CSU facilities while working with the University staff to complete a range of practical activities found in their Chemistry course. Special thanks to Mr Fitzpatrick for taking these students.

A selection of Year 10 students take part in the Rotary Science Challenge on 7 March at the College. These students will be given the opportunity to work alongside other Riverina school students to design and build a range of structures. These structures and projects will be judged on the day. More information regarding placings on the day will follow. I thank Ms Worthington for all her organisation.

This year we continue with new syllabuses for the Year 12 Biology, Chemistry and Physics courses. The department is providing online resources for these new courses to help support students.

All students in Years 7-12 have access to Education Perfect which is an online digital textbook with a range of learning experiences and formative assessment types. Year 11-12 students also have access to Edrolo online which has up to date material for revision. Year 7-10 have access to STILE activities online. All these resources provide opportunities for students to use in class or when studying.
