Middle Years

Year 8's Term 1

This term we have seen the Year 8s through many exciting opportunities to socialise and challenge themselves both academically, mentally and physically.

During week 6 of this term we engaged in a week-long trivia extravaganza where students could show off their knowledge on pop culture, their school subjects and general knowledge in a series of daily questions posed by the Year Level Leaders all for the prize of icy poles for the class. On the Friday of that week, each class saw the students answering questions to win points for their home group. Through this competition we saw an increase of excitement to be at school and engagement between the Year 8 staff, Year Level Leaders and the students. 8H came out on top and won the coveted prize with special mention to Sophie Beltrame, Paige Rodriguez and Izzy Antonopoulos who answered all 15 YLL questions for the week.

A special moment in the Year 8’s schooling for the first term is Challenge Week. In this week-long event, the students attend a series of excursions that aim to challenge the students both mentally and physically. The cohort participates in canoeing, raft building, geocaching, escape rooms, bike riding, tree climbing and many more. The week is aimed at building relationships through these experiences outside of the classroom which aims to build positive relationships in the classroom. The week was a huge success with students naming tree climbing as the main highlight of their week.

8H were victorious, becoming the ultimate winners of the KIOSC Unboxy Challenge where they had to test their teamwork and communication skills. Special mention to 8B who came close second with their creative boxy designs. This week could not have gone ahead without the dedication of the amazing volunteering Year 8 staff and keen students who are willing to give it their all and truly attempt to challenge themselves over the week.

We are looking forward to our next homegroup competition for Year 8 and the other wonderful opportunities they have to expand their horizons while at school including production, sports teams and leadership opportunities.

Well done Year 8s!

Year 9 Morrisby Testing – Wednesday 4th May 2022

On Wednesday 4th May, all Year 9s will be completing a Morrisby profiling session in their classes during periods 3 and 4.

The Morrisby profile is a series of short assessments and questionnaires that measures your strengths in various areas, as well as assessing your interests, talents, motivations, personality and work preferences.  Following the profile completion, all students will be provided with a detailed Morrisby report, in both printed and digital format.  During Weeks 7 and 8 of Term 2, all students will also participate in a 30-minute one-on-one interview with a professional careers practitioner, to discuss the results and findings of their profile.  More information will be provided on this later.

In order to participate in this program, we require consent from parents which needs to be submitted by Sunday 1st of May.  This form is currently available on Compass, so it would be much appreciated if parents/guardians could get this completed as soon as possible.

Students will be provided with more information and preparation for the Morrisby profiling during Explore.  If you require any more information, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs Jessie Dennison at den@wantirnacollege.vic.edu.au

Year 7 Camp Reflections (7I 2022)

Sarah Ellis

At year 7 camp I learned and experienced new things, I made new friendships I thought I'd never have. Camp made me realise how powerful it is when communities come together. I even challenged my bravery with the flying fox, it felt wonderful gliding through the air.

Harrison Mitchell

The camp was super fun, the food was nice, the activities were great.

Zef Ewart

I enjoyed most activities and our cabins. I got to know my classmates better through chats in our cabin.

Brodie Harvey

The year 7 camp was good there were lots of activities and the cabins were very good. The food was very good we had fruit, chicken and many other things.

Josephine Defaye

I was excited for camp because I would be able to spend lots of time with my friends. I was also looking forward for making new friends and getting away from my siblings. My favourite part about camp was the activities. My favourite activity was the flying fox because I flew over a lake, and it was fun. I also liked the low ropes because it was a team effort.

Scarlett Woznikiewicz

The day had finally arrived, I was jumping with joy. I couldn’t wait to make new friends, learn new things and try new things. Camp was a lot of fun. I made friends, I learned new things and people there were so nice. I loved walking around the lake, playing games with my friends, and thinking that our bathroom was haunted, by the way, that was true. But to sum it up, it was the best camp experience yet.
