Mobile Phones & Uniform

Mobile Phones at Hampton Park Secondary College:

As we return to Term 2, it is important to remember the Victorian Government mandate regarding mobile phones - students are NOT ALLOWED to have their mobile phone at school. At HPSC our approach to mobile phones is as follows:

  • FIRST TIME: Phone is confiscated and stored at the House office for collection at the end of the day, by the student
  • SECOND TIME: Phone is confiscated and stored at the House office for collection at the end of the day by the student and a House lunchtime redemption of time is issued
  • THIRD TIME: Phone is confiscated and stored at the House office for collection at the end of the day by a parent/guardian. The student is required to hand in their phone each morning at the House office for the remainder of the Term. The student is given a principal’s redemption of time, after school, on a Wednesday or Friday.

REFUSAL: Student is informed of their final opportunity to hand over their mobile phone. Staff members will wait for a short period of time (no more than one minute) to give the student the opportunity to comply. The student will be issued with a consequence which could include a suspension if they do not follow the required instruction.

If students do bring their mobile phones to school, they should be kept in their locker all day from 8.45am until 3.15pm.

We would also like to take this time to share with you that air pods should not be worn during the school day and headphones should be used for learning purposes only. Air pods will be asked to be removed. Confiscation may happen.

Frequently Asked Questions about mobile phones, as asked by Students:

  1. WHAT IF I NEED TO CHECK COMPASS? All students will be provided with a paper copy of their timetable. It is a student’s responsibility to check Compass the night before for any room changes. Students can also check Compass during the day on their laptops.
  2. WHAT IF I LOSE THE PAPER COPY OF MY TIMETABLE? Go to your House before school, recess, or lunch to get a new one.
  3. WHAT IF MY PARENTS NEED TO CONTACT ME OR I NEED TO CONTACT THEM? Your parents can call the school directly and we can let you know if there is an emergency at home. If you need to make a call home, you can use the sub-school phone.
  4. I HAD TO CHECK THE TIME: Listen to the music, look at the clocks in classrooms, check the time on your laptop or wear a watch.

NO BAGS IN CLASS: Every student has been allocated a locker and is expected to use it. Due to safety reasons all students are NOT allowed to bring bags to class, unless stated by the teacher. *NOTE: laptop bags can be bought into the classroom
