Launch into ICT
On November 15th students from Mr. Steer’s Launch Into ICT class visited Science Works to celebrate 70 years of CSIRAC, Australia’s first computer. The fascinating history of how Australia came to build only the third functioning computer in the world in 1949 was amazing to hear. It is currently the oldest complete computer anywhere in the world. Students also took part in a workshop creating electronic music using modern technology, as shown below with Tom Miller. Electronic music was a feat achieved by CSIRAC shortly after it was created, owing in part to its creator’s love of music. During the final part of the day the students were inspired to hear that Australia is a world leader in quantum computing with many global companies funding our universities and the brilliant research our student do.
