transforming

Don’t copy the behaviour and customs of this world but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.

Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good pleasing and perfect.   Romans 12:1,2

Our theme this term is about transformation.  I would guess that most of us have seen the Transformer movies or when we were younger, watched the cartoons.  For those who don’t know, Transformers are machines that can be both motor vehicles and alien robots simply by changing their shape, or, transforming from one thing to another.

In the scripture above, Paul is writing to a group of people who have to live in two different worlds at the same time.  He is very aware that the Roman Christians struggle with conforming, or copying, society’s standards and understandings of love, but he wants to make them aware that there is something so much better for them if they would allow themselves to be…

Transformed.

Changed not by re-shaping their outward appearance, but by having their minds renewed, transformed by the love of God in Jesus Christ.  And once that happens, they can see, maybe for the first time, that the God which had been invisible, and his will which had been incomprehensible, was now open for them to view.

Because of his mercy, God allows us to be part of the transformation of the created world, especially in the area of relationships, and although we, at times, must live in a confusing, stressful world shifting between faith and fear, we are allowed this peace that passes all understanding knowing that in everything, God’s power is greater.

As we begin the term, open your mind to the fact that we are part of God’s great ‘machine’ or body which is used to transform the minds and hearts of others to experience Jesus.

Be transformed!
