SMR GIRLS INTERMEDIATE CRICKET
In the Southern Zone Semi-Finals on Thursday 26 October the girls first had to play Mornington Secondary College to qualify for the Zone Final.
The girls had a convincing win against Mornington which set up the afternoon for some exciting cricket.
McKinnon (105) defeated Mornington (63).
- Top scorers: Lilly Felder 32
- Top wicket takers: Emma Lang 3-9 off 4 overs
IN THE FINAL:
McKinnon lost the toss and did an exceptional job on the field containing Frankston Secondary College to 123 runs. McKinnon's energy and positive expectations were again a stand out with the girls supporting each other when batting and in the field. Unfortunately, having to chase the runs took its toll with a strong bowling line-up prevailing over McKinnon's zeal, containing our strikers to 73 runs. It was a great game with emotions running high and some great performances in the field and with the bat from the girls.
Frankston (122) defeated McKinnon (72).
- Top scorers: Lilly Felder 19
- Top wicket takers: Katrina Gill 4-21 off 4 overs

INTERMEDIATE BOYS CRICKET REPORT
The Intermediate Boys Cricket team travelled to Le Page Cricket Ground in Cheltenham on Thursday 26 October for the Southern Metro Finals.
The boys played the very strong Mornington Secondary College in the Semi Final and lost the toss and found themselves in the field. After conceding a very fast start to Mornington we managed to peg them back thanks to some brilliant fielding by Josh Hunt and Miles Sellenger.
Sellenger showed his class with the ball as well taking 3/15 off his four overs.
Mornington finished with a very competitive 134 off their 20 overs but on a smallish ground the boys fancied their chances in reply.
After 10 overs we were well on track at 1/62, with solid contributions from Sellenger (26) and Liam O’Brien (18). However, a middle order collapse saw us capitulate to be all out for 79.

YEAR 8 GIRLS BASKETBALL
On Monday 30 October, the Year 8 Girls Basketball team went to Dandenong Basketball Stadium to compete in the SMR Finals. Our first game against KC Banksia lead us to win 56-6. We then moved on to play Mornington beating them comfortably by 15 points. It was then time for the hardest game of the day against Berwick Basketball Academy. The game started off really tight with McKinnon starting really well and scoring some really important points. During the game the lead was back and forth but saw us down by 10 points at half time. In the last five minutes we ended up being 13 points down but we held on and played our best minutes of basketball. With 4 seconds to go we were down by 1 point and earned ourselves free throws. We ended up levelling up the game which led us in overtime. Unfortunately, this ended in McKinnon losing by 6 points to a great team. Thank you to Miss Greenwood for taking the time to coach us on the day.

LUNCHTIME NETBALL COMPETITION
Netball was on show at the highest quality in 2017 with the Final of the lunchtime netball competition played between staff and students. The Phoenix is a lunchtime mixed netball competition open to all students. Students competed in games across numerous lunchtimes battling it out to become the champions. A few staff teams also enter and the students really enjoy trying to beat the teachers.
The Final this year was against the aptly named Staff This (Staff Team) and Do You Play Netball Mate (a team of Year 10 students, some of whom play representative netball and competed at the recent State Championships). Teams were at a deadlock early with missed opportunities from Staff This. Leaving it all to do in the 2nd half Staff This made a few changes on court and they proved pivotal and they came away with a 18-9 win.
A special thank you to Liam Adlington (PE Assistant) for running the lunchtime competitions this year. Congratulations to all teams that participated in lunchtime sports this year, we look forward to some new and exciting sport competitions in 2018.
