Farewell to our Year 12 cohort

Our Year 12 students were celebrated at last night's Graduation Mass in the presence of staff, family, friends, our Presentation Sisters and College Board.

His Grace, Archbishop Julian Porteous led the Mass in the Cathedral, and spoke to the students about the values they have gained from their time at St Mary’s College, which will help them as they leave us and make their ways in the world.

The Year 12s were each presented with a graduation ring and candle to remind them of the lantern of Nano Nagle and the light of Christ.

In her address, Principal Helen Spencer offered some pearls of wisdom for our graduating class:

'We're not all going to be "winners", but life's not actually a competition—you're only racing for yourself and with yourself.

Get in the boat and participate, row for yourself, take stock of what it is you have and know that we believe that we're ready to let your boat go.

Think of your cargo, set your course, race for yourselves and know that you are loved, and in return be grateful, be of service and love.'

Following the Mass, the students and all invited guests gathered in the Year 11/12 common rooms for a delicious supper prepared by Murphy's canteen manager, Phil Shanny and his team.

The occasion was made extra memorable for our students with the 'Originals' cutting the beautiful graduation cake, made by talented staff member, Rosemary Dwyer, and many opportunities for photos with their peers and loved ones.

Many thanks to all staff and student who were involved in this beautiful ceremony.

We congratulate our graduates on this significant milestone and wish them the very best ahead of their final exams.

Banding together in support of CanTeen

Well done to the fabulous Prefect group for getting behind CanTeen Australia and National Bandanna Day by hosting a barbecue lunch for our Kinder to Year 12 students today.

The school was awash with colour as students adorned themselves with bandannas and queued up for sausages, veggie burgers and ice cream cones on the front lawn.

Every bandanna sold through the Bandanna Day campaign will provide vital counselling services, online support and the chance for young people aged 12-25 years to connect with others who understand what it's like to deal with cancer.
