Help fund recycling at schools
Did you know that not all schools have recycling programs?
The costs of commingled recycling add up, and for many schools, the funding provided by the Government to dispose of waste just isn’t enough to cover recycling too.
The Recycling in Schools Project, led by passionate young Victorians, is asking the Victorian Government to fund recycling in schools. If you want to support them, you can sign and share their petition to the Victorian Legislative Council.
This petition takes less than 30 seconds to sign!
Park and Stride
As the weather warms up, you may consider, where possible, walking to and from school, or perhaps parking further away and walking the last leg to school.
As more students travel actively to school, the number of cars on the road and traffic congestion will reduce during the busy drop-off and pick-up times. This will also help our school community maintain social distancing at our gates.
The Kingston Council has created a couple of ‘Park and Stride’ routes for our school; however, you might like to make up your own route with your child/ren!
Did you know?
- A 20-minute walk to or from school provides one third of your daily recommended exercise.
- Students who walk or ride a bike to school in the morning arrive awake and more prepared to learn.
- On average, half as many students walk or cycle to school today than students did forty years ago.
Nude Food
Upon our long-awaited return to school next week, Kingswood are continuing to strive to become a Nude Food school. Please support us by packing rubbish free lunches for your child/ren.
Not only does it provide for a more sustainable future, but it usually works out to be healthier too! Any rubbish sent to school in your child’s lunchbox will be encouraged to be sent home with your child to dispose of appropriately.
Thanks Liz!
Last term, Liz worked very hard to relocate our school’s compost bin into 3 contained bins in the Patch. This is where we will continue to put our fruit and vegetable scraps to compost them at school. Thank you, Liz, for this, and for all your dedication and hard work looking after our environment at Kingswood. We have been so lucky to have someone like you caring for our garden so kindly.
Thank you very much for your support!
