Year 10

Today was the second day back in the classroom for our Year 10 students after lockdown. It seems Term 3 and a little of Term 4 are a distant memory, where did the time go?

The buzz in the corridor was electrifying. Many had not seen their friends during that entire time, except via technology. There is nothing like the sound of students chatting and laughing; it really brought the old building to life!

Thankyou to Michaela and Claudia for their 'return to school' tips in the lead up to our return. It was a nice way to remind everyone that their wellbeing, as well as preparedness, was of importance on this occasion. I have included a snippet of their messages below under 'Helpful Tips'.

As part of their Pastoral lesson, students were asked to reflect on what they enjoyed about school. “Being with friends” was the overwhelming response. Many students coloured stars with positive messages that were then attached to magnets and placed around the corridors on lockers. To top off the morning, doughnuts were handed out at recess to brighten the day!

Examinations

Ms Jane Ward spoke to the year level about the upcoming examinations and revisited some of the rules and regulations that will be put into place.

Everyone was sent an examination preparation booklet to help them prepare. This was full of helpful tips and reminders.

Helpful Tips

We are so excited to finally be able to be back together with you! Since we haven’t been onsite at the College for a while, we thought it would be a great idea to set some daily tasks to help in coming back to school.

  • It is summer uniform time! Try on your uniform as some will have had a growth spurt of this time.
  • Try on your school shoes. Do they fit?
  • Can I find my white socks? We don’t want to be seeing any Nike ticks!
  • Phone time. Start practising limiting how many times you check your phone and start putting your phone away this week during lessons
  • Waking up! Try waking up a little bit earlier, and not sleeping in through till Homeroom
  • Organise to meet someone to travel to school or meet up with when you first arrive. Reminder not to gather in big groups outside the College as we are still in a pandemic!
  • Lunch and snack. Is there anything in the fridge for you to bring to school for lunch
  • Check train and bus timetables and make a plan. Do you have money on my MYKI?
  • Spare masks. Place a spare mask in your school bag (and maybe also throw in some  hand sanitiser too!)

You’ve all done a fantastic job of making it through lockdown. Remember, we’re always here if you need to talk, or are struggling in transitioning back to school.
