In Term 4 students will attend a transition day in their new secondary school. They can ask any questions that they have, meet some of the staff and have a tour of the school.
School Banking update from Commonwealth Bank
For 90 years, our School Banking program has helped children learn about money, reinforced the importance of regular savings and provided structure for parents to support their children to save.
Though the program continues to have strong support from schools, parents and teachers, recent decisions by some state and territory governments because of a review by the corporate regulator mean we are unable to continue providing programs in schools, and we have had to make a difficult decision to close our School Banking program for all government and non-government schools across the country.
Our School Banking program was established in 1931 at a time when having a bank account was not commonplace, and since then we have helped more than 15 million Australians take their first financial steps. This would not have been possible without the wonderful support we have received from schools like yours, including all the parents and volunteers, and for this we are deeply grateful. Thank you.
Even though this is a sad time, School Banking has taught so many young Australians, past and present, the value of money and we believe this should be celebrated. We have created a place for you to share your stories, fondest memories and lessons learnt through the program. To share your story and access our financial education resources, please visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
Even though the CommBank School Banking program will not be returning to your school after this year, you can continue to make deposits into your child’s Youthsaver account through online transfers or at any CommBank branch. If you need further information please phone 132 221 or visit your local CommBank branch.
School Attendance
At Para Vista Primary School we believe children need to attend school regularly and participate fully in order to gain maximum benefit from schooling. Regular attendance enables children to access a full education, providing greater opportunities to reach their full potential. School staff will encourage and emphasise attendance and punctuality. Our aim is to ensure all children can access equitable educational outcomes.
To ensure that all students can access equitable educational outcomes we encourage regular and punctual attendance at school.
- 6 days absence per term from Reception to Year 7 equals 1 full year of schooling missed.
- 30 minutes late each day equals 5 days absence per year.
Our Attendance Target at Para Vista is 95%. To support this target we will ensure effective communication between parents/caregivers and the school in relation to school attendance requirements, absence and exemption.
Drink Bottles
SA Health encourages parents to provide children with their own personal, labelled and named drink water bottles. These can then be refilled at the water taps, rather than children drinking directly from the taps as they are turned off. We ask that you ensure your child brings a drink bottle to school.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast club runs from Tuesday to Thursday, 8:30 to 8:45. If your child requires breakfast they are asked to come between those times. Please encourage them to come to breakfast before they play in the yard as they may miss out.
Library Before School - Monday's and Thursday's
We have a parent volunteer in the library from 8:30am to 8:45am on a Monday and a Thursday. Students are welcome in the library on those days and may wish to read or borrow a book before going to class.
Communication
School communication is via Edmodo, Facebook, email and phone, as well as face to face when possible.
If you need to contact the school please telephone 82649588 or email parent.support483@schools.sa.edu.au
For absenteeism, we ask that you contact the front office. Class teacher emails have also been provided to follow up on individual issues. Please do not use Edmodo messages to ask teachers to follow up on individual student issues or to report absences as these have to be documented appropriately. Please refrain from sending out of hours messages and emails to teachers and Leadership as we cannot guarantee a response after 5pm. Urgent matters should be communicated to the Front Office between 8am and 5pm and will be responded to promptly.
