Sharing & Procedural Writing at home

This term was a bit of a crazy one in Year 2. Just as we were settling into and getting used to being back at school, lockdown happened again and unfortunately ended up lasting the whole term! It was back to remote learning, meeting teachers and friends via zoom and doing school work from home. However, this hasn’t stopped the Year 2s from having some knowledge fun!

During Term 3, the Year 2 students were learning about the features of Procedural Texts in Writing. Since they were learning from home, students had the fun opportunity to try making some delicious food following different procedures as recipes, such as making fairy bread and milkshakes. They then wrote some of their own procedural texts, explaining step by step how to play creative games they came up with, and other fun activities.

For Reading this term, Year 2 students learnt how to make inferences based on their prior knowledge and what is in the text or pictures. Students showed great ability in coming up with inferences based on photos, and were able to practice explaining their reasoning and thoughts behind their inferences in writing.

In Math during Term 3, Year 2 students learnt about division and multiplication. Students had fun taking photos of their toys and various objects around their house, then showing how they would share it between themselves and their friends. They also showed great enthusiasm in organising their toys into rows and columns and writing them as multiplication number facts.
