SRC Virtual Excursion

Written by Salv T (Year 9)

On Tuesday the 7th of September, the secondary campus SRC representatives attended the Whittlesea Equality and Diversity Youth Forum. We learned about discrimination against cultures and LGBTQIA+ members and the harmful impacts faced when people experience prejudice. We gained an insight and understanding of how we, as a school, community and as individuals can be more inclusive, diverse and aware of others and their identity. It is important that everyone gains this knowledge and thinking so we can make a comfortable, secure and inclusive environment for society and the future to come. If everybody gains this information on how discrimination can affect a person physically, emotionally and mentally we can stop the injustice that can be found in our society and speak up about what is right. To promote greater inclusion in the City of Whittlesea we, as a community can help set up support systems for those that need it and individually be thoughtful, generous and attentive towards everyone. The highlight I took away from the forum was how much I was able to increase my knowledge of the support given from me to every person, regardless of their culture, race, sexuality and more, including how much discrimination truly harms a person entirely. The forum was a great learning experience with strong role model people leading the way to a better future for all.
