Year 11 Design and Technology

Year 11 Design and Technology has been working extremely hard this term to design flatpack furniture.

Flat pack furniture, or "ready-to-assemble," as it is also known, is growing in popularity in our society today for a number of reasons, including the fact that it is packed flat, uses very little space, can be recycled and upcycled, saves money for both the manufacturer and the consumer by lowering shipping and storage costs, and can be easily put together and taken apart by the consumer as needed.

The students were given the following brief.

Design Brief:

Create and construct a flat-pack piece of furniture using computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software to show that you understand how commercial production processes work.

The students used the Onshape programme to construct their concepts before using a computer numerical control (CNC) machine to build their own designs out of furniture grade plywood.

They all deserve kudos for coming up with such fantastic, creative, and distinctive designs that are both aesthetic and functional.

We look forward to your future efforts, including the Mini Major design project in Term 3.

Congratulations to Year 11 Design & Technology.

Thank you to Mr Harland for his expertise and assistance with the software and CNC machine.
