Current Preps in Art

June:
The students responded to the music, ‘Bounding Flight’, by the Australian composer Tim Hansen.
To understand the different parts or instrumental sections in the piece, the students responded to the music with movement. This included using scarves to demonstrate the changes in the sounds they heard. The students recorded the sounds of the woodwind and percussion instruments with different coloured textas. They used graphic symbols to represent the different sounds dots for short, staccato sounds.
July:
The students are exploring and creating artworks which they will then use with the app Chatterpix. Here are some of the paintings the students will use to explore the app with in the next few sessions.
It was wonderful to hear the students reflect on their learning at the end of their session.
Charlie from Prep J stated, “I leaned that from your mistakes you can come up with new ideas. You can also make creatures!”
August:
The students are drawing and painting backgrounds to provide a setting for their painted character creatures. Part of their lesson involved the students setting up and packing up the painting studio so they learn to look after the art studio space independently.
September:
The Preps are continuing to work on their media stories. Below is a photo of Prep J working in the art studio painting their backgrounds and some examples by students from Prep A of their media art projects coming together. The final part of the project will be for the students to record their character’s voice using the app Chatterpix.
October:
A visit by the illustrator Anne Ryan: We were thrilled to have a surprise visit by the illustrator Anne Ryan. Anne visited our school earlier this year for our Writer’s Festival. She has just had a new book published, “Follow the Rainbow,” and kindly dropped off a signed copy to the school on Tuesday.
Students in Prep A were able to ask Anne about her art practice. She explained to them about the process and materials she employed in the book. The Preps then shared their media art works with Anne. She loved the characters they created and was very excited to see a class of budding storytellers and artists!
