Foundation

Last Friday, we planted some bulbs in the pots in the Fairy Garden. We raked over the soil, and then pushed the bulbs down deep. Then we watered them with the watering can. We can't wait until Spring when they will pop out of the soil and flower. When we came inside we wrote about planting the bulbs. We are trying hard to use our sounds and letters to 'have-a-go' in our Writing.

Foundation and Year 1/2

This week, Foundation and Year 1/2 have taken part in National eSmart Week. During one the sessions, the students listened to a live reading of the story ‘The Internet is Like a Puddle’ by Shona Innes. The story taught us that the internet can be a bit like a puddle as there are some puddles that are fantastic and fun to play in, but others are much too deep and aren't safe. It is important to stay in the right part of the internet.

We also learnt that it is important to follow three simple rules when we are using the internet:

  1. Always ask permission before using the internet.
  2. Never give your personal information to anyone. This includes your name, your age, your gender, your school, your address etc.
  3. Always tell a trusted adult if you see or hear something you do not like or do not understand.

Always remember to be your best self online!

The Zoo Experience

By Bhavin

When we left mini golf we went over some rules before entering The Zoo, which everyone was excited about. Once we got into the zoo, we saw some koalas which were really sensitive to hearing so we had to stay quiet when we were near them. Then we saw a dingo. While people were calling it over and  taking pictures, I walked over toward the next enclosure and saw an emu, its neck was very long. Then our group went to the Reptile House where we saw some big and small lizards, snakes, a frog and most importantly…a crocodile!

All of us had to walk past some enclosures where we saw wallabys, turtles and more lizards. We were all given food, I didn't know what was going on until I overheard somebody shout “A kangaroo!” I looked over to where the noise came and saw three kangaroos under a  little shelter and two more in the green, grassy field. As I was feeding one of the kangaroos that were in the field, I turned to the left to go feed the other kangaroo. All of a sudden I saw a spec of white in the corner of my eye, I turned to go look and saw… An albino kangaroo! I had to feed the normal one first. As I pet the normal kangaroos, I went over to the albino  kangaroo to feed and pet it, as everybody was doing their thing. We were eventually called over to leave and wash our hands. We started to go through the entire zoo backwards to get to the entrance and then we saw the bus, we got all of our stuff and left.

My Surfing Experience

By Ishe

It was the second day of camp. I woke up and after staying in my bed for a little while, my friends and I went to eat breakfast. I had weetbix for breakfast and it was okay, it wasn't the best. Then we went and got changed. After that we went on the bus and left to go surfing.

When the bus arrived at the beach, our class and the other school's class went to the toilets to change into our swimming clothes. When we got out of the toilets, we went to one of the surfing instructors and she told us some safety stuff. After that she told us to put on these things called wetsuits because they keep us warm when we are in the cold sea.

We had to go to one side to pick if we wanted to go boogie boarding or surfing. I chose surfing because I am more interested in surfing than boogie boarding. We had to get a partner to carry the surf boards because they were heavy for one person. My partner was Jacob. After we brought the surfboards down to the beach, the surfing instructor showed us what to do when we're in the water. When she finished showing us what to do, we went in the water and gave it a go.

Ishe the surfer dude!
Ishe the surfer dude!

The next hour or so one of the surfing instructors asked me if I wanted to go where the waves get big and I said sure (but in a scared way!)

So I hopped on my surfboard and he pushed my surfboard further into the sea. We were going good at first but then the waves started to get big, really big from my perspective. I felt my heart beating through my chest, even through the thick wetsuit. I heard waves splashing closer and closer. I heard the noise that my friends were making disappear. I saw waves, BIG waves. I couldn't believe my eyes. I smelt the salty sea, it’s scent was getting stronger. Then we encountered a wave, not a normal small wave, a BIG tall wave. What was going to happen?

We went through the wave. I fell off my surfboard. I thought that I was going to drown. Then I got out of the water and got back on my surfboard. Then another big wave came but it wasn’t as big as the last one, so I used that wave to push me back to where the others were. Some moments after that I fell off my board again and swallowed the salty sea. It was gross. (It was too salty!) Other than that, the two hour journey of surfing was fun. (And kinda scary) I had a great time and I don’t want to surf again for a while!

Explode The Moment

By Amelia

  • As he stole the ball from the opposition, Alex dribbled his way into the box.  The crowd was excitedly cheering, they were on the edge of their seats, could he make the shot? Alex’s heart was pounding like an african drum, his legs were jelly! He froze in fear until he heard “Go Alex you can do this!!” , his team was cheering him on. Alex’s fear melted away like butter in a microwave.  All of a sudden he belted the ball into the top left corner of the goal… he had made the winning goal, the crowd roared like a pride of lions and hugged each other - the Preston Lions had won the game!

‘Why Harmony Day Exists’

What is the message of Harmony Day?

To tell parents, kids, grandparents, just all people not to be racist and to try to put racial discrimination to an end.

 Did you know?

In the year 2000 the Federal Government of the United States declared the 21st of March to be Harmony Day.

Pokemon Club

What a fantastic time we are having in the Art Room each Wednesday at lunchtime. \It's POKEMON time! Thanks to some great leaders in Year 4 (Isabella, Gail Martina, Allie and Aleisha), we had over 35 students in attendance this week. The money that was raised earlier (sales have now ceased)  was used to purchase a few packs of cards to be given as prizes. Our inaugural winner was Patricia (Foundation) who scored for herself a brand new packet of cards. The next prize will be awarded as part of a colouring competition.
