7E Wearable Technologies Excursion

During May, all year 7 Art and Design classes are visiting the Banyule-Nillumbik Technical School for a hands-on excursion introducing students to the world of Wearable Technologies.

7E attended the Technical School on Tuesday 9th May.

Students learnt to sew by hand and sew using a machine, to sew conductive thread into fabric and attach LED’s to the wearable piece.

Students were also introduced to coding to learn how to code the LED’s that can be sewn into clothing. Students then had the opportunity to practice skills and some students managed to create something from scrap material.

IDAHOBIT Day

Wednesday 17th May was International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia, and Transphobia, a day where members of the LGBTQI community and allies come together to stand against bullying and discrimination. For the day, Mr. Pye and Mr. Roberts painted a giant Pride flag, and during the breaks, while listening to the live music for IDAHOBIT Day, many students traced their hands onto the flag and wrote a supportive message to the LGBTQI community.

Year 10 Jewellery Boxes

Students in Year 10 Materials Technology were introduced to the design process by sustainably redeveloping an existing product, a Jewellery Box.

Students designed and produced their Jewellery Box from recycled hardwood timber, using a range of tools, machinery, and processes, incorporating dovetail joints and laminating timber.

Students were required demonstrate safe use of machinery, including the Bandsaw, Belt Sander, Palm Router, Orbital Sander, and Thicknesser.

This unit is similar to the requirements of VCE Product Design and Technology Unit 1 “Sustainable Product Redevelopment” they will study next year.

VCD & Food Technology Collaboration

VCD and Food Tech collaborated to trial a new project 'Earth Friendly Burger Box'. Inspired by the flavours from popular cultures students designed their own original burger. They chose a name for their burger and created the packaging. Once the packaging was complete they made the burger.
