School Sport Victoria Intermediate and Senior Division Coastal Competition - Netball
On Thursday 4 May, two Intermediate and one Senior netball team attended the Coastal stage of the School Sport Victoria Netball Competition. The day consisted of a round robin format with each game consisting of four 7-minute quarters.
Our teams were:
Intermediate Blue: Mia Compton, Evie Vickers, Ciara Downard, Taya Scott, Jaialla Turner, Georgia Egan, Maisie McNaughton, Neve Brewer, Tilly Geue and Aleisha Perkins (Inj).
Intermediate Red: Olivia Roberts, Kiara Foster, Tessah Harris, Mia Skinner, Rylee Reid, Poppy Holland, Emme Elborough, Georgia Oates, Remy Holt and Sienna Milverton.
Seniors: Abby Hay, Maggie Hart, Zara Walker, Rachel Darwin, Briea McLachlan, Leah Perkins, Chloe Hay, Isobel Scott, Darcy Permezel and Kati Chappell (Inj)
Trinity Intermediate Blue participated in four games across the day. They started strongly producing great netball to defeat the Colac Secondary College (CSC) Year 10 team 34-6. In their second game of the day they played against the CSC Year 9 side and good defence combined with smart ball movement resulted in a very convincing 40-5 win. Their third game of the day saw them face off against the Trinity Intermediate Red side and this was an excellent game of netball. It was fast paced and skillful with great intercepts and accurate goal shooting. Both teams worked hard for the entire game and deserve to be congratulated on their performance. The score was close all game, but Trinity Red ended the game with the win. Trinity Blue’s excellent form continued in their fourth and final game of the day when they ran away with a big 39-8 win against Apollo Bay. It was a great day of netball produced by this team and they should be very proud of their efforts.
Trinity Intermediate Red played five games throughout the day and produced a great standard of netball. They started the day with a big 40-6 win against the CSC Year 9 team and continued that form into their second match against CSC Year 10’s, winning 43-3. Their third game of the day against Trinity Blue was challenging. Trinity Red led by a small margin throughout the whole game however Trinity Blue evenly matched them in all positions on the court to always stay in touch. The end result saw Red beat Blue 16-10. In the fourth game of the day Trinity Red came up against their toughest opponents for the day, the Trinity Senior side. The girls produced great passages of play and defended hard, but the senior team was just too strong and skillful. It was an excellent experience for the intermediates to test themselves against an elite netball team and they certainly showed they were worthy competitors. In their last game of the day, they were simply too strong for Apollo Bay which resulted in a comfortable 43-2 win. Trinity Red will now progress through to the next stage of the School Sport Victoria competition.
The Senior girl’s netball team had a successful day on the court. With three games and a number of combinations, the team gelled well together. They had three big wins defeating CSC first 49-5, then Apollo Bay 44-11 before facing the Trinity Intermediate Red side who proved to be their toughest competition for the day. Regardless of this, the Seniors showed their experience and class, winning 35-12. Best players for the day included Chloe Hay, Briea McLachlan and Isobel Scott. The Senior girls are looking forward to the Greater Western stage of the competition later in the month.
State Golf Championships
A huge congratulations to Micah Robb who was our only golfer to make it through to the State Golf Championships on Friday 26 May. The championships were played at Gardiners Run Golf Course in Lilydale. The weather conditions were quite difficult throughout the day, with the players battling rain and wind. Micah finished in the top 30 competitors with a 5 over, 77 for 18 holes, which was a great effort. Well done Micah.
Colac Field and Game
Friday the 26th of May saw over thirty Trinity students attend the Colac Field and Game Club, where sixteen students were instructed and sat their Firearms Safety Course. Our experienced group of students who had represented Trinity at various Clay Shooting events over the years were taken through their paces on one of the Field and Game ranges. They were required to shoot at four designated clay targets thrown from various heights and distances. These shooters completed numerous mini competitions over the day.
Following the Firearms Safety Course these group of students were instructed in the practical use of a firearm and given the opportunity to put what they had been instructed in, into practice. The instructors were amazing with the way they individually spent time with each student making sure that the correct process and protocols were followed before releasing the firearm. The students were given the opportunity of standing clay targets in the ground and then from distance trying to hit them. A number then had a go at hitting a moving clay on the actual range itself.
The club itself also put on a BBQ for lunch, which the students greatly appreciated. All this would not have been possible if not for the dedicated behind the scenes work from Michelle Melville and Caleb Melville a Year 12 student at Trinity. Instructors for the Firearms Course had to be booked, members of the club had to be asked and followed up to attend the day to assist our shooters, the range had to be set up, firearms borrowed for the students to make use of, and the BBQ organised. To Michelle and Caleb and the other volunteers who assisted on the day a “Big Thank You”, from Trinity College. All the students who attended had a massive day.
