Welcome to Week 7.

We have been very busy within our part of the school over the last few weeks. We have been trying to share what has been happening and rewarding positive behaviour through our ClassDojo. Thank you to everyone that has joined, if you have still not yet joined and want to, please contact me and I will support you through the process.

In our class at the moment we have recently started our new RE unit titled ‘Pentecost’. Students will learn about the Pentecost story, develop an understanding of how the Holy Spirit is with us today and recognise that Pentecost celebrates the beginning of the Church.

Sounds-Write continues to help support our learning within our Literacy block. All students have continued to develop their knowledge of a range of sounds by practising the skills of blending, segmenting and manipulating sounds. This week, students in group 1 are exploring the sounds x and y, as well as starting to learn that a sound can be made by two letters in examples such as ff, ss, zz and ll. Students in group 2 are learning about 4 different ways that we can write the e sound which are e, ee, ea and y. In preparation for learning in Term 3, students are also spending time completing a reading comprehension assessment task called Fountas and Pinnell.

In Maths we are using our time to build our understanding of division and fractions. So far this term we have explored concepts relating to skip-counting and multiplication so we are able to use previous learnt skills to support our learning of division. Students will use materials to help them share amounts evenly, then share this information using a think board.

Our Inquiry unit at the moment, students have last week created two different types of musical instruments and this week will be involved in an experiment relating to shadows, then creating their own puppet.

Finally, it has been great to see not only the learning growth that all students have made this term, but also the improvement in staying on task, getting themselves organised and development of social skills throughout this term. Well done to all students.
