Dear Families & Carers,
Welcome to another action packed edition of our newsletter. We are so proud to bring this publication to you each week, showcasing our amazing school community.
On Monday we kicked off our week with an exciting excursion to the Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre for our Grade 1-6 students to see 'The Twits'. Based on the ever popular Roald Dahl book, members from the Brisbane theatre company presented this story to our amazed students. If your child loved this presentation, it is a great opportunity to read the book together. Did you know that for a child to even contemplate reading a book within the school environment, they need to be exposed to around 2000 books...what a crazy statistic! I cannot underestimate the power of a bedtime story. If you child loved this book too, it opens the gateway to so many more famous Roald Dahl books such as the classic BFG & Matilda.
Last term, we had a focus on attendance. At Assembly, we celebrated our students who managed to have 100% attendance for Term 1. This term, we will be celebrating children that have managed to get 95% attendance or higher for the Semester. 95% attendance is what all students should be aiming for and means that there is opportunity to miss a little bit of time due to illness or appointments. Here is a current number of students per class sitting in the 95% range...
Foundation: 3
Grade 1/2BH: 4
Grade 1/2NH: 3
Grade 3/4WY: 4
Grade 4/5G: 3
Grade 5/6G: 10
There are a number of students who are sitting 'just below' this percentage as they have been recently hit with an illness. With a couple of weeks of strong attendance, these statistics will change quickly!
Class DoJo is going well with many families jumping on board. If you haven't received your invitation to join yet, please feel free to reach out. Class DoJo is a closed platform so only our school community members can see what is going on. Classroom teachers are using different tools as they go. Officially, our Power Plays have been retired and replaced with Class DoJo points. This week, children can earn Class DoJo points for being a learner. Our SWPBS focus this week is 'we are learners.' We are looking forward to sharing some amazing skills with you as the week progresses. Seeing updates via Class DoJo gives you the sense that you are in the classroom. If you haven't found 'Stories' yet, please have a play around with the app. Most classes are now posting on a regular basis little learning tasks they are doing so make sure you check it out.
On Monday during Assembly we celebrated the following students for outstanding learning! Congratulations;
Foundation: Kelsey
Grade 1/2BH: Ayu
Grade 1/2NH: Dom
Grade 3/4WY: Connor
Grade 4/5G: Henry
Grade 5/6G: Millie
Congratulations to Teagan in Grade 1/2BH who was this week's Class Dojo raffle winner.
Just a reminder, as Winter is now upon us, so is cold & flu season...we have extra RAT tests if anyone is after some. Just contact the office and we will send some home with your child. Please, if you child is displaying cold or flu like symptoms, keep them home.
In closing, I just wish to mention a very special celebration happening this Sunday the 11th of June in our very own Our Lady's Parish with our very own students, Cadel & Isaiah. Cadel & Isaiah have been preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation & First Eucharist. With the help and support of Mrs. Malcolm (Senior Leader: Catholic Identity) and Christine (devoted parishioner) and Monsignor Chris (Parish Priest) these students have been learning and preparing to receive the Sacraments on Sunday. If you are able to come along, we would love to see you there!
Rumour has it that our very own Our Lady's School Choir will also be singing at their first gig on Sunday during the Mass! Mrs. Malcolm has been singing up a storm with these individuals...come along if you can.
Our choir members are; Neve, Maddie, Steph, Cadel, Alexis B, Danielle, Patrick, Savannah, Shailla, Matilda D, Charlotte, Ariah, Mckenzie, Catherine, Leo, Sammy, Olive, Heidi, Brody & Bianca. Oh, and I have heard a rumour that there might be a cake...
Blessings,
Cassie Lynch
