F/1/2 News

We have almost reached the end of the term, but the students are still learning every day.

It has been great seeing how much the F/1/2 students have learnt and grown over the past two terms. This knowledge has really come through in their assessments that they have been completing over the past few weeks.

For the last few weeks of term, the students have been learning about data collection and money in Maths. The students have enjoyed asking questions and collecting data. They have even been choosing to come up with their own data collection in Walker Learning. We have started discussing money this week and will be continuing this learning later next term. It would be great if students could be given opportunities to work with money and develop knowledge of how much money is worth through their holiday activities.

In English, we have continued to focus on narrative writing and the students are getting really good at identifying the components of narrative texts. We have also started moving into blends and digraphs with our Letterland curriculum.

We have also been focusing on body safety in class. We have been developing our knowledge that our body belongs to us and that we have the ability to say if we want to be hugged or not. We have started discussing what we can do if we do not want a hug, such as saying “I don’t want to be hugged right now, but maybe a high 5.” to help them be able to provide an alternative safe connection. We have also discussed that sometimes if there is a safety or a health issue, one of their trusted adults might still have to intervene even if they say “no”. A good song to help students learn about this concept is Boss of my own body by the Teeny Tiny Stevies. Learning about this topic will continue into term 3.

                                    3/4 News.

This fortnight we have been working on Measurement in maths. We have learnt how to make a 'Magic Potion' using solids and liquids. We used measuring instruments to measure out our ingredients to make our gross and groovy potions.

We can't wait to share our ERP's with the school community on Wednesday! We have been hard at work researching a topic of interest from Australia.
