Student Reports
It was concerning to see that there was a large number of parents who had not yet opened their children’s reports on Compass. It is essential that parents understand where the children are at in their learning and how they can work with the school to ensure that their child is happy and learning at their optimum, so reading the report is very important.
I am interested in any feedback about why so many parents do not open the reports. This might help us understand any challenges and what we need to do in future to ensure that all parents access reports in a timely manner.
In this instance, we have printed reports for these particular students and sent home hard copies, but this is not necessarily a preferred option as it does not consider sustainability and it does use a great deal of paper.
As mentioned, I am happy to discuss this with any parents if they have further information or ideas.
School Neighbours
We have some lovely school neighbours, with whom we have a really good relationship. They enjoy seeing all the students going to and from school and understand that it can get busy at pick up and drop off time. However, it is important for us to be considerate and respectful of their space and ensure that they have access to their own driveway at all times.
It has been communicated to me that parents are parking in neighbours driveways, leaving their bikes on their lawn or driveway and standing on fences and gates.
To support and respect our neighbours please be mindful of your actions. You can help by parking in designated areas on the street around the school, and in the large car park near the kindergarten. Park a little further away and take time to walk the children to the school gate.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and consideration.
Headlice
Unfortunately, headlice continue to be a part of school life. We do not have access to external support to identify headlice in students as we used to with our lovely ‘Nit nurse’. Therefore, it is essential that parents understand how to identify and treat their children when eggs or live nits are present in their child’s hair. Check your children weekly and look for little white eggs which glue themselves to the hair. You would need your nail to remove this so it is different to dandruff which can be shaken off. Live nits are very easy to spot and you will often see children, scratching their head, particularly around their ears, the nape of the neck.
The school will continue to send a note home to let you know if there has been any headlice in your child’s classroom, so please ensure that you check regularly. If your child needs to be treated, there are many solutions at the chemist which might be helpful. Combing conditioner through hair is a great way to prevent nits as it stops the eggs from attaching to the hair .
More information is available in the Health & Wellbeing section of the newsletter.
Weekly newsletter
Please read the remaining articles in our newsletter, as there is always important information, including an item from Ms. Scott reminding parents to have a conversation with the children about school yard incidents and the importance of reporting these to teachers for follow up.
Thank you
Thank you to all your well wishes, for a speedy recovery. The surgery on my feet was a success, but it does take 3-6 months to recover fully so you will continue to see me hobbling around and sometimes on my crutches to ensure that I do not overdo it.
School Council
Our next School Council meeting on the 25th July at 6pm. It will be a slightly longer meeting as we need to have two meetings on this night to make up for not having quorum at our last meeting.
As one of our School Council members is moving out of the area, there will be an opportunity for a parent to join School Council in the future. If you are interested, please contact me at the office.
Foundation Enrolments
It has been lovely to meet lots of new students starting at our school next year. If you have a child who is turning five before April next year, please come and see us at the office to make an appointment to enrol your child now.
It is important we complete the enrolment papers now as next term your child will have an opportunity to participate in a very beneficial Transition Program. This program is once a week for much of Term 4.
Kind regards,
