First Holy Communion
On the weekend, some of our Year Four children received Jesus for the first time! Receiving your First Holy Communion is a very special occasion. First Eucharist is a key step in the initiation of a person into the community of the church. The whole parish community comes together to celebrate with the family and to welcome the new communicant, the person receiving Communion.
First Holy Communion is the beginning of a special journey of intimate lifelong connection and friendship with Jesus. When people receive Jesus in the Eucharist he nourishes and strengthens them to live good lives.
The word ‘communion’ means to be united with someone. Catholics believe that in Holy Communion people are united in a special way with Jesus. Holy Communion and the whole celebration of the Mass is also known as the Eucharist. Eucharist is from a Greek word meaning thanksgiving.
If you attend mass over the next few weekends, you will see more children receiving their first Holy Communion. Congratulations to all our First Holy Communicants!
