Physical Education

Welcome back for more PE and Sport! Its been a HUGE last two weeks lots to celebrate.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

FOOTY CLINICS

Last week our students across all grade had the opportunity to engage with AFL Vic and some highly enjoyable Football clinics. Students explored a variety of skills through games and team activities led my AFL Vic Coaching staff.

CONNECTION AND RELATIONSHIPS

Physical activity is a great way for any person to forge strong positive relationships. It's a staple of the PE/Sport program. Leading into the end of term students across all year levels have been focusing with greater emphasis on improving connection with others. Engaging in games and activities the assist with a greater emphasis on positive human connection and team collaboration has led to  high energy with the mood in sessions filled with laughter and huge smiles all round.

WORK EXPERIENCE STUDENTS

I have been very fortunate to have two outstanding work experience students with me in the PE. Makayla and Ruby have been fully engaged in assisting students across the school in managing challenges and reaching new skill and personal relationship goals in PE. Our students have enjoyed their time with them, and I thank them for their great contribution. - - Makayla is a past LPS school captain and outstanding student leader. Ruby is a former student of mine from my previous school when I was her grade 3/4 classroom and PE teacher.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT - MR T:)

This week many students asked about my absence from school on Monday and I've been keen to share what I've been up to. On Monday, I was a co-lead panellist and presenter at the ACHPER Victoria Primary Conference at La Trobe University. My main engagement was around 'Connection Before Content' and the value of relationships and student connection as a priority to enhance inclusive learning for all.

Since 2019, I have been working with ACHPER, a leading organisation for the development of Health, Physical Education and Recreation in the education sector. I have been privileged to present numerous professional learning opportunities for Health and PE teachers from across Victoria to help them enhance the learning opportunities for their students at their schools. At the end of 2022, I was elevated to the lead advisory and teacher development team which acts as the driver for the development of leading professional learning for Health/PE teachers. It focuses on best practice approaches, policy and curriculum development for the industry.

HOME RUN HEROES

Softball Australia partnered with Lysterfield PS to produce a range of promotion and

instructional videos for the new Home Run heroes program. Selected Grade 3-6 students attended a day of filming with the Softball Australia media team here at Lysterfield PS at the end of last term. It's super exciting for our students and school as these videos assist other schools and clubs with their Softball programs helping to develop enthusiasm, skills and engagement in the sport.

Feel free to read the website article and view our kids in action!

SSV EASTERN METRO REGION CROSS COUNTRY

Three of our top distance runners participated in the School Sport Victoria Eastern Metro Region Cross Country Championships which was held at Yarra Valley Racecourse in Yarra Glen last week. It was a sunny but cold and muddy day with students navigating the challenging course. In tricky conditions Flynn S, Luke W and Alexandra I gave it their absolute best  pushing their limits against the best from Eastern Metro.  I'm extremely proud of their effort and the resilience shown on such a challenging course.

A GRAND CHEERLEADING RESULT

Alana J (Grade 4) loves her cheerleading. On Saturday she competed at her first cheerleading competition of the 2023 season called Ice Breaker. It was held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. It was a strong competition with Alana and her team form Outlaws Cheerleading taking out the Level 2 win and Overall Grand Champion performance across all age groups.

LYSTER ALUMNI- PE/SPORT

A Lysterfield student is always member of the Lysterfield community.  We have a number of past pupils continuing with their sporting passion and achieving elite results and recongition.  I'll be doing my best to cover as many as possible throughout the year. If you know of achievements of past students at an elite level please contact me with details.

Caleb W- Australian Rules Football (alumni year 2017)

Caleb is an outstanding Australian Rules Footballer playing for the Eastern Ranges FC in the NAB League,  he was recently selected in the Victorian Metro team for the National under 18yrs Championships. The Under 18 competition is the premier competition for potential draftees to the AFL. I'd like to wish Caleb all the best at the champs and look forward to hearing more around his football journey.

Lachlan B- Basketball (alumni year 2022)

Lachlan has continued to develop as a highly skilled basketballer. Recently he was named in the School Sport Victoria State team for the upcoming schools national championships for the 2nd year in a row. An outstanding effort once again. Congratulations and best of luck.

Makayla L- Swimming (alumni year 2019)

Makayla was one of our schools strongest ever swimmer who still hold 3 school records. Her trajectory with swimming has continued to soar in 2023. She won the state schools title in the 100m Backstroke this year and she was selected as a member of the School Sport Victoria State team for the national schools titles in August, where she has a whopping 7 events. Her exploits in the pool now see her ranked in the top 5 swimmers in Australia for her age and top 10 for all age groups for the 400 Individual Medley and 200m Backstroke events, and ranked 30 overall in the national open rankings. She is currently on the national team radar after a solid performance at the world championships qualifiers recently.
