Learning and Teaching

Dear Families,

Celebration Morning

The classrooms and corridors of LPS were buzzing with excited students showing families their learning about Geography from term 2.  It was delightful to witness how proud the students were sharing their work, and the work of others students.

In Prep, students learnt about Geography, through engaging in our ‘People and Places’ unit. Students explored and reflected upon their school and personal communities, learning about the places in them and how we are personally connected to them. Students then looked into Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, discussing their connection to Country and how we can help look after our environment.

Grade 1 students investigated natural and human-made features in their local community. They explored how different people make different connections to their community, including indigenous connections to the land and the importance of respecting and caring for it.

Students in grade 2 developed a stronger understanding of where we live, in relation to Australia and the rest of the World. They discussed the differences between natural landmarks and man made landmarks and identified ones that they know in Victoria.

Students in grade 3 started their Geography unit by using an atlas to complete a map of Australia labelling the states, capital cities and state emblems. Students studied three landmarks and their significance through an indigenous and environmental lens. This culminated in the creation of an art gallery featuring their landscape drawings with descriptions.

Students in grade 4 learnt about the culture, climate, landmarks, animals and plants of Africa and South America. The research culminated in a comparison between Australia and their chosen country.

Our Grade 5 students focused their learning on natural disasters, population density and Australia's connection to Asia and North America. While our grade 6s developed an understanding of what culture is and how our culture can impact our beliefs. They developed an understanding of the continents of the world, and took a closer look at Europe, Asia and North America, understanding the similarities and differences between these continents and Australia.

Have a wonderful break all and see you in term 3.
