INSPIRING CURIOUS MINDS

YEAR 5/6 NEWS

WHAT BEING AN AUSTRALIAN MEANS TO ME IN THE 5/6 COMMUNITY

I am proud of being an Australian because there are loads of nature and animals that you can’t find anywhere else apart from Australia. Even though I was not born in Australia, people welcomed me like I was an Australian. I also love Australia because there are people from all over the world and has loads of different traditions and foods.

To me being an Australian means that you are respectful to all cultures and religions. You also are welcoming and respect the elders. Being an Australian makes me feel so fortunate to live in this country because there is freedom. Being an Aussie makes me feel good because I know that there are many other Aussie’s that we can all become friends with!

I am Australian. I’m proud I live on this land and know who I am. Being Australian involves caring for people and their being. We pay our respects to the owners of this land. I am very lucky to live here when other countries can be dangerous. I support my community and for who we are/ I celebrate our cultures and learn more by the day.

Luke

Being an Australian to me is like having a community. I feel honoured to call Australia home because of the first people who called it home, the first nations people. I think it’s amazing how the first people of this land looked after Australian nature and wildlife. I am also proud to be an Australian because there are over 160 different cultures in Australia. The footy, beaches, kangaroos and vegemite are a minor part of Australia. The larger more significant aspect of Australia is the community, respect and kindness we have for each other. I love being an Australian.

YEAR 3/4 NEWS

In Term One, the 3/4 Curiosity Question was 'How can I positively contribute to my community?'.

Damian in 3/4E noticed that the basketball hoops did not have nets attached and this made it hard for the students to know if they got their ball into the hoop as there was no 'swish'. Damian wrote a persuasive letter to Mrs Arnold to ask her to add nets to the hoops. Mrs Arnold was very impressed with the letter and Damian's presentation. This week, the nets arrived! Well done Damian! You should be really proud of your positive contribution to SMPPS.

The 3/4s have had a fantastic start to Term 3. We have begun a whole cohort reward system which is based on a specific goal. So far, we have been focussing on transitioning quietly and quickly around our learning space. The 3/4s have done a fantastic job working towards their goal. In mathematics, students have been looking at formal units of length. In the pictures displayed, students are seen measuring using a metre ruler. We are looking forward to a wonderful Term. Stay warm!
