Maker Space

Grade 1 and 2

We have commenced work on our energy dioramas. We are working in small teams to create small models of different types of energy. e.g. Solar, Wind, Coal etc. This is a great task to consolidate all the students' learning from within the CBL classes this term.

Grade 3 to 6

Our mini golf holes are complete and we had a fantastic time evaluating each others' courses when we had our session playing on not only our own course but everyone else's. It was wonderful to see how students came together to figure out how to work efficiently and effectively as a team to complete this task.

Physical Education

EMR Cross Country

On Tuesday 13th June, Harvey, Sam, Kaylee and Luella represented our school at the Eastern Metropolitan Region Cross Country event. In order to qualify for this event, they had to pass through the school, district and division events beforehand. Just making it to this day is an outstanding achievement.

Each student gave their personal best and ran a great race. We would like to make specific mention of Harvey, who finished 8th, and has subsequently qualified to represent our school at the upcoming State Cross Country event.

We thank the parents, families and friends who attended this event to support our competitors.

Junior Hooptime Competition

On Friday 9th June, many Grade 3 and 4 students participated in the Junior Hooptime competition at Kilsyth Basketball stadium. The students had a wonderful time playing multiple games of basketball throughout the day. We are incredibly proud of the way they all played the game and in the right spirit. They truly represented Wonga Park Primary School exceptionally, both on and off the court. A special mention to the All Star Boys and Wonga Wombats who made it all the way to their grand final and won their respective finals. Congratulations!

Many thanks to every parent who assisted in the smooth running of the day, from the coaches and managers to the parents who took sweaty, smelly singlets home over the weekend to wash and clean. We very much appreciate your support in making this day a great success.

Interschool Sports

We have just finished up our Winter Season of Interschool Sports. It was a wonderful season in which students were able to participate with their teammates in a variety of sports. It was great to see the growth and improvement of teams and individuals throughout the term.

We would like to congratulate our students in the Hotshots Girls and Volleybounce Mixed teams, who have made it through to the District Champions playoff round. These matches will take place early in Term 3 (date TBC)

A big thank you to all of our parent volunteers throughout the term. This program simply cannot run without parent support.

Visual Arts

Prep

So much colour has been created in the Art room lately! Rainbows upon rainbows, and beautiful Autumn leaves traced with pastels and painted with inks. These leaves have been used to decorate the students Autumn page for their 2024 calendar.

Grade 1/2

Students have enjoyed creating their yarning stick; measuring lengths of wool, learning how to over lap and wrap without tying knots, and working with a partner to incorporate found objects such as gumnuts and feathers.

Grade 3/4

The Northern Lights were the inspiration for this piece of work using pastels and paint. Students also learnt how to create a realistic reflection in the lake of the lights and the fir trees.

They have also been hard at work creating their Learning Snapshot wall hanging. First they created a geometric design, then sponge painted using contrasting colours, and finishing it off with a running stitch including beads. Next term they will make attachments for hanging their work.

Grade 5/6

These are some of the many examples of the wonderful landscapes that the 5/6s have created this term. Their attention to detail and careful blending of colours has been outstanding.
