Happy Holidays

This is the last newsletter for Term 3, and I would like to wish our students and their families a wonderful school holiday.  All students have finished today, Friday 15th of September at 2:30pm for two weeks.  School will reopen on Monday 2nd October.

Footy Day Parade and Sausage Sizzle

Thank you to everyone who attended our Footy Parade today.  It was wonderful to see so many students and their families together in our gymnasium.  Please see the Footy Day page for photographs.

I would personally like to thank all families and staff who supported our Sausage Sizzle Fundraiser.  The money raised from this fundraiser is $1354 and will go towards future projects at school. Thank you to the parents who helped with donations.

New Build Update

Landscaping work around the basketball court and oval is currently underway.  This has led to a temporary closure of the basketball court and back playground however the new Ninja playground has been opened for students in Years 3 to 6.  Students have been able to use the gymnasium at recess and lunch in place of the basketball court.  The building project is now close to being completed and we look forward to the removal of the temporary fences and full access to our grounds.

African Drumming

This week, students from Foundation to Year 6 were exposed to West African drumming and culture through the African Drumming Incursion.  During the incursion, students got to watch the artists perform and develop their understanding of African drumming, singing and dancing as well.  Then the students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of hands-on drumming experiences including playing the African drum “Jembe”.  It was a fun and memorable experience for our students.

Longest Kick

What a beautiful day it was for our longest AFL kick competition on Thursday! It was wonderful to see so many enthusiastic students willing to have a go and give it their very best. The competition was run for F-2 students at recess and 3-6 students at lunch time. Students lined up at the AFL team they barrack for and were given the opportunity to kick the longest kick for their team. A big congratulations to the following students who were awarded their prize for the longest kick at our footy parade today.

Book Fair

Our annual book fair was a great success.  It was great to see so many faces light up when they saw the huge selection of books for sale.  The money raised from this will go towards purchasing new books for our Library which will open later on this year.

2023 NAPLAN Results

The results for students in Year 3 and Year 5 who undertook NAPLAN this year were published earlier this term.  We are very pleased to announce that analysis of our NAPLAN results for this year have highlighted a number of areas of celebration.  Students in Year 3 performed above State Expectations in Writing, Numeracy and Grammar and Punctuation with Reading performance ahead of Network and Similar School averages.  In Year 5 student performance in Reading, Writing, Numeracy, Grammar and Punctuation was again above State averages.

Upcoming Events Next Term

Zoo Trouble Update and Ticketing Information

The excitement is growing for our students as our production dates grow nearer.  Classes have been very busy organising their scene, creating the characters and practising their dancing moves.

Most classes are now practising without the use of scripts to give the students time to add facial expressions and stage movement to their characters.  Script reading at home is a great way to help your child develop confidence and create their character.

As explained previously our production is held over two nights with the school split into two casts.  Please see the split cast list below as a reminder of what classes will be performing each night.  If you are unsure what night your child is performing, please see your class teacher for guidance.

Our show will run from 5:30-7:30pm.  Please ensure your student is at school ready and dressed by 5pm at their classroom on their performance date.  Class teachers will send students home with their costumes after the full-dress rehearsal on their performance day so you will have it with you to get your students ready for the night.  Parents will be required to sign in their child at their classroom and sign out from their classroom once the performance has commenced.

Tickets for our Production “Zoo Trouble” are available for purchase via TryBooking (an online ticketing platform)  https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1110223

Tickets are $10 each, included in your ticket price is a download of the filming of our show.  As previously stated, Zoo trouble will run from 5:30 -7:30pm with students required at their classrooms at 5pm.

Student Free Day

The Department of Education and Training has provided schools with the option to hold each teacher’s allocated professional practice day on the same day for all staff, similar to what occurred last year.  This is to enable the most effective and efficient use of this day. As a result, we have scheduled our professional practice day for Friday 13th October (the day after our 2 Production nights).  Students will therefore not be required to attend school on this day.  Team Kids are operating on this day.

BYOD Information Night

In Year 5 and 6 students are highly encouraged to have their own laptops at school as this fosters the development of 21st century technology skills.  Through this, students are able to access the Victorian Curriculum in a way that develops skills that students can use in Secondary School, when they join the work force and in their own personal lives.

On the 23rd October parents of students in Year 4 and Year 5 are invited to participate in a ‘Bring Your Own Device’ (BYOD) Information Session.  This session will provide families with information regarding the program and what type of device is most suitable to bring to school.  More information will be sent out regarding this session next term.
