Parents and Friends Association

Hello again from the PFA

We’ve had a busy month in August with our hard-working members doing two separate fundraising events, as well as running the 2nd hand uniform shop.

Tastepoint

The first event for the month was the Tastepoint evening. This involved 60 PFA members, friends, teachers, Mr Page, Mr Butler and Mrs Vanstan coming along to the school one night and being served sample plates and plates of delicious roast lamb! We were then asked to give feedback to an independent research company, working for the Meat and Livestock Association. It only took up an hour of our time and I for one was very full after this, although one particular Principal did comment to me that he was still quite hungry after it, as he “could eat like a horse”.  It was an interesting experience, although likened to sitting an exam by some, sitting in individual cubicles as we were, but a very easy way to raise $1000 for our school, getting paid to eat! Put your name down for it if we run another taste test next year.

Father's Day Stall

The other fundraising this month came from our PFA voulunteers running a Fathers Day Stall at school. This was very well supported by the students, with lots of cards sold. We raised $265 over the 2 days and we thank all those who supported this.

Bunnings BBQ

Next month, our tireless President Larry, along with his band of PFA helpers, will be running a BBQ at Bunnings Fountain Gate. (You may have read recently that there were approximately 9,900 barbeques run at Bunnings stores across Australia last year raising $10m for local charitable and community groups such as Nossal.) The project will be on Sunday 21 October from 8:00am to 6:00pm. Put it in your calendar now and pop down on the day and buy the family a sausage each for breakfast, lunch or dinner, or for that matter, all three.

Larry has been contacting local businesses seeking their support and the goal is to have all of the takings on the day, clear profit.  Thank you to those who have already supported our project, but if you would still like to help you might make a financial donation to the PFA to help purchase drinks that we will be selling on the day or you make like to help us fill one of the last remaining slots on the roster.

For more details of how you can help us achieve our goal, please contact Larry on:  0407 210 030 or via email:   larrylarkins453@gmail.com.

News from our September Meeting

At our meeting last week we heard the school raised $15,000 in the Rotary Community Raffle. Surely a new record for that one?! Thanks so much for supporting the school, with all money from ticket sales being donated by Rotary directly back to the school. One lucky Year 10 Nossal student won 3rd prize, a $500 Westfield voucher! Bet she’s having fun spending that!

We also welcomed a new face at our monthly meeting. Natalie has a child who finished at the school previously and has another starting next year. Natalie came along to see what our meetings were like and learn about things that are happening around the school. Lovely to see another new face and we look forward to seeing more at the next meeting, which will be on Wednesday 7 November. (Please note there will be no October meeting as we do not meet in the school holidays.)

For anyone who has a child starting next year, come along at 7:00pm on the first Wednesday of the month (apart from the school holidays). It gives you a great sense of community and belonging to be able to help our school, whether it is just having a say at the meetings or giving a little bit of time at the many events we run. Don’t think you have to actively volunteer to fund raise as this is only one aspect of our work. You may just come along to have a say at the meetings or to hear what is happening around the school, and that is just fine. As I’ve said before, you could not meet a friendlier, more welcoming PFA anywhere, and I have been on a few PFA’s. We snack while we chat so you can come straight from work, as many do. So come and meet us or talk to any of us with any ideas you may have the next time you see us.
