Farewell Fr Justel

Every year, Archbishop Hart announces the various appointments and changes of our Parish Priests and Assistant Priests. During the weekend masses, Fr Justel announced that he would be moving to the Parishes of Mordialloc and Aspendale.  We were saddened to hear about this move but wish Fr Justel all the very best in his new parish. Fr Justel was a regular visitor in our classrooms last  year, sharing his life stories, knowledge about sacraments, training our altar servers  and getting to know the students. He will be missed. You are all invited to a farewell mass on Saturday 4th February at 6pm followed by supper in the hall.

Gospel Reflection

4th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A

The gospel readings for this Year A are taken from the Gospel of Matthew and the Church is currently celebrating the Season of Ordinary Time. The Sunday Gospel for this week is the Sermon on the Mount, with Jesus teaching about a set of Blessings called the Beatitudes. The Beatitudes are a framework for Christian living and excellent guidelines for establishing ways of being and doing in the classroom, the school community, home and at work.  As a staff, yesterday we reflected on the Beatitudes and we were asked to reflect on one word or phrase that we made a connection to. We were asked to think about the feelings  or memories that word triggered for us. We were asked to think and reflect on how this word may challenge us. We were asked to reflect on what is being asked of us as followers of Christ.

Pope Francis has further elaborated on the teachings of Jesus, which are just as relevant today as they were when they were written. Pope Francis challenges us to think about the following beatitudes

Blessed are those who remain faithful while enduring evils inflicted on them by others and forgive them from their heart.

Blessed are those who look into the eyes of the abandoned and marginalised and show them their closeness.

Blessed are those who see God in every person and strive to make others also discover him.

Blessed are those who protect and care for our common home.

Blessed are those who renounce their own comfort in order to help others.

Blessed are those who pray and work for full communion between Christians.
