SCHOOL INFORMATION 

SECONDARY SCHOOL VACCINE PROGRAM

The Secondary School Vaccine Program offers free vaccines to help make sure students and communities are protected from diseases such as diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, human papillomavirus (HPV) and meningococcal A,C,W,Y.  

Local councils deliver the program and schools distribute the information and consent card booklets.

The Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2009 authorises secondary schools to provide their local council with student and parent/guardian contact information for any student scheduled to receive a vaccination. This information assists local councils to follow-up parents/guardians of students with incomplete or missing consent cards.

What information goes to local council?

Schools provide the following basic student and parent/guardian contact information:

  • Student name, gender, date of birth, year level, class, language(s) spoken at home
  • Parent/guardian names, phone numbers, email and postal addresses

Why do schools provide this information?

  • To ensure all Year 7 and 10 students are offered the opportunity to access free vaccinations at school.
  • To improve communication with parents/guardians regarding their child’s vaccination needs
  • To reduce the administrative burden on school staff to follow-up consent cards

What do I need to do?

  1. Your information will be provided to Mornington Peninsula Shire in March 2018.  If you do not wish for your details to be provided, please advise the school in writing before 28 March 2018.
  2. Read the information provided in your child’s consent card booklet and complete all sections, regardless of whether or not you consent for your child to be vaccinated as part of the school-based program.
  3. Detach Part A of the consent card booklet with all fields completed, and return to school.

Every day vaccination saves lives and makes it possible for Victorians to live free from the illness and disability caused by many infectious diseases. All Year 7 and 10 Victorian secondary students can receive these vaccines for free.

STUDENT INSURANCE

Parents are reminded that DET and Mount Eliza Secondary College do not provide personal accident insurance for students. Parents and guardians are responsible for the cost of medical treatment for injured students and transport costs including Ambulance transport in an emergency situation.

Student accident insurance policies are available for purchase through a number of insurance companies. Mount Eliza Secondary College is not in a position to recommend an insurance company as this is a personal choice depending on your circumstances.

Parents are also reminded that DET and Mount Eliza Secondary College do not provide insurance for personal possessions of any description including motor vehicles, for damage or theft at the College or on the College grounds. If insurance coverage is required we recommend you contact your insurance provider for further information.

 

CHANGE OF CONTACT DETAILS

Almost all information is forwarded to families by email. It is important to keep the College updated of any changes to email addresses, as well as other changes such as address and telephone numbers. Notification of changes can be done via Compass or emailed to the College at info@mesc.vic.edu.au

 

ABSENCES OR LATE 

Parents are reminded to notify the College Absentee Office before 9:00am if their student will be absent or late for school for any reason (holidays, appointments, sick).  Parents can phone the College Absentee Office on 97886290 available 24 hours a day and leave a message.

CAMPS SPORTS AND  EXCURSIONS FUND

(CSEF)

​​The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) provides payments for eligible students to attend activities like:

  • school camps or trips
  • swimming and school-organised sport programs
  • outdoor education programs
  • excursions and incursions.

This $148 million initiative helps ensure all Victorian students can take part in school trips and sporting activities. The fund commenced in 2015 and will initially run for four years.

Applications for 2018 are now open, through until the end of term 2, 2018.
